The seven acts who will participate in Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu (UMK) 2022 are set to be revealed on Wednesday 12 January. Ahead of this, Finnish broadcaster Yle has been releasing a series of clues about each of the artists.
Yle seemingly likes to tease fans, as these descriptive hints follow the photo clues that the broadcaster posted in November last year.
Fans now have one day to piece all the clues together and give their best guess on who the UMK 2022 acts could be.

UMK 2022 artist and song reveal
Over 300 songs were submitted for UMK 2022, but only seven were selected to compete in the national final. These seven artists will be revealed at a press conference on 12 January at 12:00 CET.
The seven competing songs will be presented one each day, beginning on 13 January.
UMK 2022 will take place on Saturday 26 February. The show will be held at the Logomo Arena in Turku.

No.1 could be Battle Beast
The hints mean nothing to me, as I know nothing of the Finnish music scene. However, #5 sounds like Isac Elliot if we consider Tyga “a big international star.”
They should’ve dropped them last week or announced the names next week. I’d rather wait for tomorrow.

However, i’m very interested to hear the songs, there was a big interest after last year’s success so i expect big tunes and well known artists.

Is #3 Ressu Redford?
These clues mean nothing to me. I’ll just wait and see who will be competing tomorrow
The Emma Gala one could be Nightwish, but that’s probably just wishful thinking.
But it is possible if you look at the hints:
They’re supposed have a huge tour going right in the middle of Eurovision season (God willing) but that would be incredible. Personally, I’m hoping the beast unleashed one is Battle Beast.
Battle Beast also fits the hints, indeed. I’d prefer Nightwish, because Battle Beast gives me Teräsbetoni vibes.
I know nothing about Finnish music industry and I do not really know any artists, so I have no clue, but No. 1 made me think of Lordi. It would be such a surprise! It would be great to see them again with a good song.
Exciting! No idea who these are, but if we look at last year we’re getting some really great entries once again. Finland is one of the countries that brings every year something different and never same type of entries year to year.
I hope its not BESS, because theres already another famous finnish artist called BEHM, and she is betterer.

The past two years UMK has been facelifted very well and I’m expecting quality, hopefully we’d get some new names with some more famous artists.

I don´t think so. Sunrise Avenue has MUCH more than “only” 10 Million Streams.
Sunrise Avenue is on tour in April/May2022 in Germany.

I think they just used a gender neutral noun so they wouldn’t reveal too much.

Finnish 3rd person singular is genderless, so maybe it was translated that way to keep the ambiguity
Finnish doesn’t have gendered pronouns.
The original Finnish clue says “sä tiedät tän” which would be “you know THIS”. Not them, not her, not him. So it could be a band or a solo artist.
As a Finn I have some guesses, but there’s not that much to go by. Number 1 is either a bait or Beast in Black If Erika Vikman is in, she’s probably number 2. Could be almost anyone tbh. Number 3 could be either Samu Haber or Tarja Turunen. I guess the Rasmus also fits the description. Depends on how “veteran” they are. 4 is Husky Rescue 100% I would say.
The first one has to be Beast in Black. They’re a Melodic Metal from Finland and they are nominated for this year’s EMMAS.
I’d love to have melodic/symphonic metal in the contest!

Why so many dislikes? Camilla Cabello’s grandfather is Finnish and I think she said in an interview that her biggest dream is to represent Finland in Eurovision.
Is this some inside joke that I don’t understand or did she really say that? But anyway her representing Finland isn’t that simple. In order to participate in the UMK at least one of the vocalists has to have finnish citizenship or a permanent residence in finland. And I’m gonna assume Camila has neither of those. So if she would actually be interested to participate it would have to be with someone else.
She will probably sing with Danny (UMK 2021) if the rumours are true.

Ooh, I hope that Robin Packalen will actually participate! Even Antti Tuisku, ever since I saw the opening act in UMK 2021, my wish was that he would participate. I hope he does!!
Camilo Cabello doesn’t have a finnish grandfather. The “Cabello” grandpa is cuban as her and the “Estrabao” grandpa (her mother’s dad) is mexican, both are totally and absolutely latin, as their surenames, not finnish
Antti Tuisku would be way too obvious for the first one. UMK never gives hints that obvious.
The only guess that I’m even a little confident on is The Rasmus for number 3. They have toured Europe, they have gold and platinum albums and have been in it since the 90’s. Also Joel from Blind Channel liked and commented on this particular clue. Joel, Niko and The Rasmus’ frontman Lauri made an acoustic cover of Dark side a while ago so it’s safe to assume they know each other. I havent heard anything from The Rasmus in the last few years, but if they participate and bring a song like In The Shadows, that would be awesome! Or even a rock ballad like the Funeral Song would be great.
