Eurovision fans, mark your calendars: Ukraine has confirmed a date for its Eurovision 2022 national final

Public broadcaster UA: PBC announced today the Ukrainian pre-selection final will take place on Saturday 12 February, with one lucky artist receiving the coveted Eurovision ticket.

The names of the artists competing in Ukraine’s newly-revamped national final will be made public by Monday 24 January.

Ukraine will decide its Eurovision 2022 entry on Saturday 12 February

Ukraine will decide its star for Turin on Saturday 12 February.

Prior to the grand final, UA: PBC received a total of 284 submissions, with the longlist of applicants slated for release next week.

The whittled-down list of finalists in the running will be revealed by Monday 24 January. However, the total number of finalists is yet to be confirmed.

From 2016 to 2020, Ukraine used the Vidbir selection show to choose its Eurovision act. The show produced such fan favourites as Jamala, MARUV and Go_A, solidifying Ukraine’s spot at as a Eurovision powerhouse (and the only remaining country to have never failed to qualify from the Eurovision semi-finals).

Following the internal re-selection of Go_A in 2021, the Ukrainian broadcaster is handing power back to the public.

The national final is set for big changes this year. Public broadcaster UA:PBC ended its partnership with commercial channel STB, through which Vidbir was created, creating doubts about the future of the selection show. The exact format of the new national final is yet to be confirmed.

The production company behind the national final — Friends Pro TV — will also produce the Ukrainian act for Eurovision 2022 in Turin.

What do you think? Are you excited for Ukraine’s new national final? Who would you like to see compete? Let us know in the comments down below.

Sounds too soon for the lack of transparency, but I can’t complain. Vidbir has always been one of the strongest (if not the strongest) NF and I expect this year to have a fierce competition.

I kinda Wish it would be scheduled later in the month, like the 26th, because I feel like the broadcaster isn’t giving itself enough time to really sort through those 284 submissions and inform the selected artists and rehearse by the 12th. It could turn out to be a strong lineup, but the show itself could be a bit of a mess because that’s just not enough time. The last time vidbir was held, the submission period lasted from October to December 2019, and then it took a month to window down the submissions to 16 that represent in a… Read more »

I guess February 12th will be Ukraine and the Baltics, unless someone else schedules their national final that night as well.

Well not quite. You left out Belarus, but then again they can’t participate in Eurovision anyway.

It’s kind of funny that I first heard about the Polish Lithuanian commonwealth through the Japanese web comic/anime Hetalia of all things. This was never covered in my European history AP class in high school, despite it being the most advanced history class at my school. In fact, I got into Eurovision because of Hetalia Due to several recap videos of Eurovision years with the song snippets accompanied by fanart of the Hetalia European characters.
