Poland Rafal First Rehearsal Eurovision 2021

Krajowe Eliminacje 2022, Poland’s national selection for Eurovision, wasn’t even on the cards last week. But on Friday TVP published the full list with 10 names, with some familiar faces, who will compete in the final on February 19. That’s what you call a ride.

As reported by the Polish news site Plejada.pl, the list includes Eurovision 2009 alum Lidia Kopania and The Voice winner Krystian Ochman, who has been heavily rumoured over the past two years.

Fan favourite Daria, whose song “Paranoia” has clocked over nine million views on YouTube, and Ania Brycyn, who was also heavily rumoured, are in as well.

Krajowe Eliminacje 2022 – competing acts

  • Unmute – “Głośniej niż decybele”
  • Karolina Stanisławczyk & Toro Chica – “Move”
  • Emilia Dębska (Mila) – “All I Need”
  • Daria – “Paranoia”
  • Krystian Ochman – “River”
  • Lidia Kopania – “Why Does It Hurt”
  • Kuba Szmajkowski – “Lovesick”
  • Karolina Lizer – “Czysta woda”
  • Siostry Szlachta – “Drogowskazy”
  • Ania Byrcyn – “Dokąd”

Some of the songs are already available to listen to already. Besides Daria’s “Paranoia”, you can listen to Unmute’s “Głośniej niż decybele“, Kuba’s “Lovesick” and Ania’s “Dokąd“.

Unmute’s song, which translates as “Louder than Decibels”, is performed entirely in sign language with no audible lyrics. The song seems to call on greater awareness and recognition of the deaf community. The lyrics, which you can read in the subtitles, go like this:

“Get crazy, shout, we wanna do it louder! Scream, more, we wanna go even louder. You can’t hear us? This has got to be changed! We’re gonna get louder than decibels.”

Poland in the Eurovision Song Contest

There’s little that Poland hasn’t tried. Following their hiatus from the competition, the country decided to internally select Donatan and Cleo and Monika Kuszyńska in 2014 and 2015. Then they organized a 10-song national final, Krajowe Eliminacje, which had regular instalments until 2018.

Since then they’ve tried their luck internally selecting Tulia and Rafal, for 2019 and 2021 respectively. For the canceled 2020 edition, they repurposed the long-running talent show Szansa na Sukces as a national selection show, which has also been in place to select their Junior Eurovision entries since 2019.

What do you think? Who would you like to see in this new Polish selection? Do you think Poland can find their way in the final once again? Let us know in the comments below!

If they want to have a chance of doing well send Ochman or Unmute.

Trust Polish TVP and “jury” to send especially thst which will do zero on Eurovision.

My guess? The broadcaster just couldn’t decide from the 10 remaining contenders in the internal selection that they decided to make a national final all of it for the people to have a say.

I’ve listened the 4 already released songs and I don’t think Daria and Kuba would be good choices, Poland needs something with character after giving us the laziest entry of 2021. Ania’s ballad is not memorable either, but at least is something that sounds a bit more organic. Do the lyrics really say something like “Because time is big and like a cat it will take your own world”? Curious line, but actually a true statement. I think it’s great that Unmute will be part of the competition. Just their presence there will already be a big deal. But same… Read more »

No, the lyrics are actually
“Because the time goes by and as an executioner
It will take your own world”

In the lyrics the word that is used is “kat” which means executioner. Cat in polish is “kot”

yes you right and they always write “Krystian Ochman sent a solemn ballad, which was composed with the use of electronics and piano. In terms of lyrics, the song focuses on the themes of nostalgia, regret, indifference and it is hard to find a continuation in the work of the young artist. He has not yet shown such a face as in the song for Eurovision 2022. The potential hit of Eurovision 2022 is called River and it is a completely premiere composition”.

Maybe that’s the case, but I think at this point, we’re just gonna have to accept that Alicia might never return to represent Poland for Eurovision. Maybe it might happen in a few years, but I’m losing hope on that. At this rate, the only 2020 non-returning participant that I can see returning for 2022 is probably Athena for Armenia. I bet she would’ve represented Armenia last year, if they hadn’t withdrawn in 2021. There has been no word so far on Armenia’s plans for 2022, Oh but I hope Athena gets her second chance, unless they go with somebody… Read more »

Wow, another national final on February 19! It’s turned out to be a very crowded day. Ironically, I’ll be very busy myself on that day because that day is part of the weekend for the annual Gallifrey one Doctor Who convention That is returning after a two year absence due to the pandemic.

i really hope ochman will show us a really good song cause he’s really interesting it is just a pity that it will not be a song in Polish and i think that Karolina Stanis?awczyk might suprise us but i I doubt that she could win despite the fact that i would like to. paranoia is a good song but not for ESC, she has no charisma and character. lovesick especially its.. its terrible.

Disappointed but not surprised. The two most hyped song – Paranoia and Lovesick – kind of sound like Melfest rejects to me. They may seem quite nice but they are also very generic. And most importantly – live performances that I have heard so far really did not sound good and were completely flat. Idk, maybe the studios where they performed were not well equiped etc. but isn’t it just an excuse? I listened to Ania Byrcyn’s song and sorry but I got tired. I wasn’t even half way through and I already expected the song to be over. Yes,… Read more »

I would love to see both of them representing Poland in ESC one day. Maybe Roxie did not have a good song yet. Maybe she wants to find a song she believes in. “Anyone I want to be” had a great message. Maybe she wants to go with something more artsy or bold now. While her song was very JESC, Viki’s song Superhero was good enough for ESC (in my books). I really hope for all my Polish friends they’ll soon take their first ESC victory. And it would be more than amazing if Viki or Roxie do it.

All these national finals this year and our broadcaster ERT still refuses to allow people have a say in the selection in order to send a random unknown doctor who sings part time in Norway. Montenegro struggles to find someone to select internally and Greece which has a big music scene “sends” the talent to Cyprus….

Colin

I am glad that Poland is giving the people input on who to pick as that was the major criticism last year. Of course, due to a NF song (Sanremo this time) winning, more countries which shift their ways of selection opted on having a NF themselves. As there are many selections this year, I’ll likely end-up not raking some of them, but I do wish them all the best in their process. As Poland has already released some songs, I might include them still. As for the finalists, I liked Lidia’s song in 2009, so her inclusion once again… Read more »

I think there can be an argument to be made for having sign language (or Polish sign language in particular) be seen as a validly equal counterpart to hearing languages so the EBU will have to put that into consideration since they historically have been accommodating in making exceptions upon their discretion and accordingly adjusts to make the rules be fair and inclusive for everyone in the future if needed be.

I must be honest and say that I really enjoy Daria’s Paranoia, but I don’t think this is a good song for Eurovision. It reminds me a lot of the 2010 era. Which is good for a nostalgic throwback to 2010, but not at the Eurovision stage 2022. Hope that makes sense. Would love to see something more contemporary for Poland this year. They are a JESC powerhouse. Hope this can translate to ESC too soon for Poland.

Jessica Folcker

I’m glad that it’s no longer a 2 horse race between Daria and Kuba. Although if I had to choose I’d go for Paranoia. Lovesick loses its flare halfway through and then it’s only ‘la la la lovesick’ and ‘why why why’. Shame because he’s a talented vocalist.

I wouldn’t be surprised if one of the unknown songs won. Let’s hope it goes well for Poland this year, so they don’t give up again for a few years like last time.

Really interested to see how Daria fairs. Given that “Paranoia” has already Number 1 in Poland I would imagine she is one of the favourites. Or I wonder if we will have another Margaret 2016 situation. Speaking of which Daria has in numerous interviews compared herself to Margaret ironically. Has stated that her and Margaret are the only Polish female soloists to sing English language songs. But yes I will be rooting for Daria and “Paranoia.” Think its contemporary and dark nature could do well in Turin.

bartosz

The problem I see with “Paranoia” that it is quite overplayed. I wonder if it will result in lower televotes.
I personally hate this song. I hear it in the radio at my work at least 2 or 3 times a day. Everyday. For at least a month or two. It gets pretty irritating.
