With just one month until the national selection Eurovision – Australia Decides 2022, the first entry has just been revealed.
West Australian progressive-rock quintet Voyager have released their neon-heavy entry “Dreamer”, including the video. The synth-heavy song is a commentary of living, breathing and being in the now. With lyrics commenting on lost love, mixed emotions and loss, lead singer Danny’s powerful vocals emphatically brings the listener the feels.

Posting on their Instagram page, the band has written about their inspiration and motivation behind their entry:
“As humans, we tend to look to the stars and glorify what could be. Simply, Dreamer is about looking at the here, the now and valuing what we have around us. Especially over the last two years, hopes and dreams vs the tiny locked down bubble we live in has been a constant push and pull… It’s good to be a dreamer, but the grass isn’t necessarily always greener.”
Upon entry to Eurovision – Australia Decides, singer Danny Estrin (vocals and keytar) said:
“Eurovision is the greatest show on earth, so getting a chance to represent Western Australia and to showcase our keytar driven brand of heavy music is one of the most exciting and surreal opportunities to ever come our way!! So, thank you Australia for giving us the opportunity to take you on a voyage with us in what has been a lifelong dream.”
Voyager’s entry marks the first song release for the national competition, with more entrant songs expected to be released in the next week.
About Eurovision – Australia Decides 2022
Eurovision – Australia Decides will be presented at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 February.
Hosted by comedian Joel Creasey and music buff Myf Warhurst, Eurovision – Australia Decides will showcase the best of Australian music and talent. Australians are encouraged to vote for their favourite artist and song to represent the nation on the world’s biggest stage. The winner will be revealed during the Live TV Final which will be broadcast exclusively on SBS and SBS On Demand on Saturday 26 February.

I’m hoping this does well at Aus Decides. I think it will be popular with our public vote, but maybe the jury might not score it as favourably.
I can’t imagine this will make it through the Australian final, but if it does I would be very happy. This is one cool song. Catchy but not too predictable, alternative but not too obscure.

To those who say a song like this can’t win, remember how many people said the same about Jamala, Salvador and Maneskin. If recent years have shown us anything, it’s that the old rules just don’t apply as strictly as they used to. Which is a damn good thing.

Off topic but Jude York released their song “I won’t need to dream” and apparently Australia’s trying to make up for time not at eurovision by releasing their 1959 entry a few years late.
You say it as if it’s a bad thing. It’s a gorgeous song reminiscent of 50s Disney soundtracks. How can that be a bad thing? Haha

The one thing is that it might be a tad too shallow between verses and refrains, but that’s about it!
This is actually really cool. It takes a while to heat up and the structure is a little weird for a potential Eurovision song. As a result, I wouldn’t imagine it’d be the choice for the contest but I enjoyed it a lot.

I think it’s super cool, but I also have no doubt most people will hate it. Still … it would be awesome to see them in Turin, there never was anything like it at Eurovision. Also, after all those years, it’s about time Australia sends something bold and risky.

Yeah I’m digging this for Australia! Our cousins putting us to shame again (UK) by putting forward something really enjoyable and memorable plus I like the respect the singer has for the competition. Be cool if this is selected for them!
I’ve seen this band live multiple times and the singers vocals live are absolutely legit. Beyond excited and hopeful this is what we send.
This is really good. Maybe the fact it doesn’t have a prominent chorus will harm its chances in a competitive environment and I would appreciate if it had some proper lyrical content, but I loved the sound and the vocals. It’s always comforting when you find something to root for right with the first released song of a national selection.

This is quite amazing. Finally a rock song that is different from all the others and stands out. There is a touch of Soft Cell in this song I feel too, which is great. But it probably wont be immediate enough for most listeners though.
I’m also hearing a little Depeche Mode in the vocals, but that could just be me lol.
It reminded me of Depeche Mode as soon as it started, even before the vocals – the first twenty seconds are very Depeche-esque.

Okay, this is groovy as hell! The most enjoyable song I’ve heard from a rock band this NF season. Please send this, Australia! If I were to be picky, I’d say the transition to the chorus might need work and the lyrics are nothing special, but this is going straight to my Top 3.

Wow! You can see in the composition tht it has a lot of progressive rock here. If I’m not wrong, that would be the first progressive rock song in Eurovision. The closest thing would be Iceland 2007 a d Czech Republic 2008, but that’s more hard rock.
Guys, it’s not a song for win, but it’s a very well composed song. It’s kinda flat, but it has the main core of progressive rock, that it’s to blend tons of movements and rhythms

Listening them live maybe I’ll change my mind but by know I found it bland ( it doest reach high peaks, stays always to the same accords, repeating them constantly)
I also found it generic because that kind of synthetic sound seemed to me something heard a lot before in those Playlists offered free by spotify, somehow a sound just created by a software.
Generic are for example almost all songs in the irish and maltese preselection…

This is good. Lyrics are a little basic but love the synth fusion. Reminds me of Georgia 2016.
I can’t see this out of my Top3 of Australia Decides once all songs are out. Modern af, competes with Cyan Kicks in the best rock entry of NFs so far imo.
P.S I Won’t Need To Dream by Jude York is out as well! Not bad at all. We have a very interesting NF season so far!
This song lacks the thing called quality! So unproduced you might as well quit singing all together, I think Azerbaijan will be this years winner anyway!

Since starting a National final, the Australians always know what to do even if I don’t love all their entries—I respect the diversity of their lineups and how current they are. This is a good representation of a modern rock song and glad it represents a part of Australia that does not get as much notice abroad.
Well, Australia already had a better selection than Ireland and Malta. And this is the 1st rock song this year that didnt disappoint me.
So far Finland and Portugal have the best preselections…

To me, the chorus feels like a bridge. I love everything about the rest of the song but it feels like the chorus is just barely missing something. Still beats Bulgaria
