wrs

Romania’s selection for Eurovision 2022 has been a long road. But after 46 initial acts entered the race, only one now remains standing – WRS has won Selectia Nationala 2022 with “Llámame”.

He’ll now head to Turin and represent Romania at Eurovision 2022.

WRS wins Romania’s Selectia Nationala 2022

The result was decided by a combination of 5/6 jury and 1/6 televote.

WRS earned top points from three of five jurors and finished second in the televote.

The winner of the televote was Dora Gaitanovici, who ended up third overall.

WRS – “Llámame” (Romania Eurovision 2022)

Running order

  • Alex Parker & Bastien – “Best Of Me”
  • Andrei Petruş – “Take Me”
  • Claudia, Minodora, Diana – “România mea”
  • Dora Gaitanovici – “Ana”
  • Gabriel Basco – “One Night”
  • Kyrie Mendél – “Hurricane”
  • MOISE – “Guilty”
  • Petra – “Ireligios”
  • VANU – “Never Give Up”
  • WRS – “Llámame”

The show also featured an interval performance with several Eurovision 2022 acts from other countries:

  • Albania’s Ronela Hajati
  • Bulgaria’s Intelligent Music Project
  • Czech Republic’s We Are Domi
  • Estonia’s Stefan
  • Moldova’s Zdob și Zdub
  • Montenegro’s Vladana
  • North Macedonia’s Andrea

Ukraine’s Eurovision 2016 winner Jamala also performed “1944”, having fled Ukraine due to the Russian invasion.

Are you happy that WRS won Selectia Nationala 2022? How do you think Romania will do at Eurovision?

??? Romania, after carefully studying the comments, please don’t send any more songs in Spanish that is bothering them, because they are too little to understand a compliment no matter how grammatically correct it is or not. Send in Dutch, I swear we will be honoured by such an initiative. It’s embarrassing to criticize a nation who did nothing but send you a compliment by using your language. It’s a sentence in the south of the Netherlands, it say like this, it’s from a Dutch Fairytale:” and when you will arrive my master our prince in the south, and thou… Read more »

This is the most progressive act Romania has ever sent to Eurovision and I’m sure it will qualify in the final. I might even call this a step forward for Romania.

This is just an utterly cringy, cheesy, awful entry. The national competition should be scrapped for a few years and a return with new younger judges with proven international success is a must if we are to recover any standing This will be another NQ.

I just realized the split jury:televoters is 5/6 vs 1/6, IN WHAT WORLD is that normal? This has got to be the most un-democratic NF I’ve ever seen, and blatanly so. It’s sickening that people’s votes (the taxpayers whose money you take to have a representative in eurovision) don’t get a fair share of the voting. I wish him luck and Romanian comittee to just quit, or for people to not vote, that way you wont support this sh*tshow

A good choice, all TVR needs is a comedian to make a mockery of competitors and it might also raise their ratings. As they are now, with less than 200k viewers there are more people watching cartoons channels.

Personally voted a few times for Dora because she’s actually able to sing her own song live at least, but, totally unsurprisingly, communist-era relic TVR decided to make a mockery out of the voting public by making the televote count for less than 20% and also adding a convoluted scoring system that basically rendered the whole thing into an internal jury selection with ongoing “donations”. For what, exactly? For pushing through a meme entry with random mumbled Spanish lyrics… Well done, TVR, enjoy that 4th NQ in a row.

Read more »

Tbh i love it. it’s simple and needs improvement but it’s catchy. also the staging was poor bcs the studio the final was filmed didnt offer too much . on a big stage could do quite well. it s a song that doesnt require super vocals to be good, and even if his voice was not wow in this , it can aleays be fixed but i think this is what makes him special:)

He doesn’t really sing very well, nor does he dance very well. The song is better than it originally was now it’s revamped, the lyrics of the chorus are still preschool-level Spanish. It feels like the kind of song many countries liked to enter around 2005 or so. Still, it’s kind of an earworm and I don’t think it’s without hope of qualifying, but Romania can forget about a decent result.

The jury absolutely destroyed this national selection. Faur’s obiective for the final was just to make arrogant declarations to E-an-na. I hope he Will have the guts to be as vocal after the semi-finals as well, and they will assume the result. 100% televote next year, or we better withdraw, anyway The interest from artists will be much lower after what happened this year.

The past few years have been stronger than this one, so I don’t really think Romania will struggle as much this year. That is, unless if somehow WRS has a breakdown or something which, probably won’t happen. Wouldn’t want him to suffer from the Roxen syndrome now.

Cheesy, bland, dull and, overall, highly ridiculous. His stage presence is almost embarrasing. It seems like he’s trying too hard to be someone.

It is also true there weren’t too many better options to choose from. At least this would live for the memes. I doubt it is enough to qualify, especially being in the 2nd SF.

Yes, a very good artist, a woman who sells s * x on a song from the 2000s. Take a look at the Portuguese to see what it means for a woman to sing and behave with dignity, as woman, as a powerful woman of 21 century. And leave the Romanian alone, I prefer Romanians to the detriment of Spaniards as music and people every day.
Netherlands sincerity.

obvs it was the one of the 2 better songs in the selection.Dora was the other one but the jury somehow didn’t like her.

I think Romania could be a borderline qualifer depending on the countries voting in their semifinal and the level of entries of the semifinal.

Singer looks like he’s a wannabe Sakis Rouvas/Sarbel, song sounds a bit dated but it’s okay, i guess. if Romania fails this year again, then i seriously think they will withdraw.

Except that our jury (I’m from France) gave points to the harmless songs (Greece, Russia and Portugal) that were not the favorites. No points to Italy or Malta. 7 points to Switzerland that I feel were given as an excuse to say “see we do give points to another fav” because it would indeed seem even more suspicious given the French lyrics if they did not. Anyway, those jury votes were truly ridiculous to me and my friends here. So I wonder if Spanish jury will play dirty like this too and vote for non-favorites then maybe they could give… Read more »

Why would the Spanish televote favor such a mediocre song, just for a few words in Spanish? There’s been many songs with Spanish elements to it recently (Fuego, Loco Loco, El Diablo, …) and it never worked. As said above, the only reason this could get televote points in Spain is the Romanians living there.

You are clearly non-Spanish, right? Words like Fuego, Loco, Hasta la vista, Señorita…. are soooo cliché. You harder hear Spanish people saying them. But hola, mi bebé, llámame is 100% real current Spanish. Plus the sound gets stuck in your head, it is perfect as a summer song.
