Iceland’s Söngvakeppnin 2022 rolled on with the semi-final two on Saturday. In the end, two acts qualified to the grand final – they were Katla and Reykjavíkurdætur.

The result of the semi-final was purely down to the public.

However, a jury also chose a wildcard act from those who had been eliminated from the first and second semi-final. This was given to Amarosis, who performed in semi-final one.

Söngvakeppnin 2022 semi-final one qualifiers

Katla – “Þaðan af”

Reykjavíkurdætur – “Tökum af stað”

Non-qualifiers

  • Markéta Irglová – “Mögulegt”
  • Suncity and Sanna – “Hækkum í botn”
  • Hanna Mia and The Astrotourists – “Séns með þér”

Wildcard act: Amarosis – “Don’t You Know”

Söngvakeppnin 2022: Show details

Söngvakeppnin 2022 features two semi-finals and one grand final. The hosts of all three shows are Björg Magnúsdóttir, Jón Jónsson and Ragnhildur Steinunn Jónsdóttir.

In each semi-final, all the acts must perform their song in Icelandic. Those that reach the grand final must then perform in the language they intend to sing at Eurovision, should they win Söngvakeppnin 2022 and be selected as Iceland’s entry.

The results of the semi-finals will purely be down to the public. A televote will choose two acts to qualify for the grand final. Of the six non-qualifiers, a jury will then select one wildcard act to complete the five-song grand final.

In the first round of the grand final, a 50/50 split of viewer and jury votes will determine the two superfinalists. The final decision in the superfinal will be made solely by public vote.

At Eurovision 2022, Iceland are scheduled to perform in the second half of the first semi-final on 10 May.

What do you think? Are you happy to see Katla and Reykjavíkurdætur qualify from semi-final tow of Söngvakeppnin 2022? Shout out your opinion in the comment section below.

Okay, for next Saturday, Iceland has two options–Katla and Reykjavíkurdætur. Personally, I like Katla’s entry the best and I think it’s the best song for this selection; however, we already have a lot of ballads at Eurovision and despite its good quality, it might not stand out as much. If Iceland wants to stand out from the crowd, then Reykjavíkurdætur is their best shot to do so. They would definitely be different from the rest and that could help them qualify, although that’s not a guarantee. Better to go down for taking a risk than to play safe and be… Read more »

Sanna was the first girl, and yes I agree, she was better. I think the studio version was too auto tuned

sad to not see marketa make it. she was my favorite from the get-go, hopefully she tries her luck again for iceland or possibly her home country of the czech republic. she’s a true talent! this semi was definitely the stronger of the 2 (which is why there was no need for semis in this contest to begin with) so someone i liked was bound to get the boot and i’m sad it had to be marketa

Katla and Reykjavíkurdætur (ctrl C and ctrl V, obviously, because I still can’t write the name of Dadi’s band) were great. But Markéta should be the wildcard. The only reason I see for she getting snobbed is because Sigga, Beta & Elín have a similar quiet folky vibe and the producers maybe wanted to add more diversity.

That’s what I forgot to write yesterday, that the wildcard is not right, because it clearly belongs to Markéta. Hm.

I agree. I have nothing against Amarosis, they seem nice. But if they haven’t qualified from the weakest semi, I don’t see the point of getting them to the final.

Folky maybe wasn’t the best way to describe it. But I still think they share a vibe, especially when we don’t have the visuals to compare them.

In any case, I guess it’s between the sisters and Katla now. But if there’s a country that can pick the rappers, it’s Iceland. They learned recently that sending different things won’t hurt. I would be honestly fine with all of those answers. Would have to listen to them more to pick a favorite. Do we know who will sing in English?

Söngvakeppnin’s songs were released in that Saturday everything was happening, so I remember reading the lyrics, but not what each song was about. Then I only watched the performances on the semis. I’ll try to do my homework during the week, maybe I’ll have a favorite after all.

OK, out of our five finalists, I only see Katla as Iceland’s best chance for a decent result Eurovision.

Managed to watch the performances between Denmark and France. Very strong semi, as expected. Katla is a lock, right? But don’t make me choose between an Oscar winner, a girl band made of rappers and those adorable hippies. Loved all of them for different reasons.

The Oscars should be taken always with moderation. But her winning song is a gem, don’t you agree? 🙂 I would like these 4 from today plus the sisters in the final. But Iceland came with unbalanced semis and here we are.
