One of the final countries to select their act for Eurovision 2022 is Iceland. On Saturday evening, five acts will perform at Söngvakeppnin 2022 with the aim of securing the ticket to Turin.

Ahead of the show, we asked you to vote for who you think should win.

It was a very tight race in the end, with only two votes separating the top two.

But after counting a total of 1,957 votes, we have a result…

Reykjavíkurdætur a favourite to win Söngvakeppnin 2022

Narrowly taking the top spot are Reykjavíkurdætur (Daughters of Reykjavík). They’ve been praising feminism and the power of womanhood since forming back in 2013. Now they’re bringing their message to Söngvakeppnin, and it’s one that our readers are jumping on board with. Their song “Turn This Around” earned 625 votes, which is 31.94% of the total number cast.

After performing completely in Icelandic during the semi-final, the female-rap group will add in a portion of English lyrics for the grand final to add even more dynamism to the song.

Following very closely behind in second place is sister trio Sigga, Beta & Elín (also known collectively as Sísí Ey). They picked up 623 votes (31.83%) for their song “Með hækkandi sól” (“With the rising sun”). A popular group from the Icelandic indie-pop and folk-pop scene, they’re known for their beautiful and hypnotising voices. The trio will be keeping their song in Icelandic for the final.

Katla has also decided to stick with the Icelandic version of her song – “Þaðan af” (“From there”). The singer placed third in our poll with 425 votes (21.72%). Katla is a young singer and her time in the music industry has been relatively short so far. However, y’all still think she is destined to shine bright on the Söngvakeppnin stage.

Poll results: Who should win the grand final of Iceland’s Söngvakeppnin 2022?

  1. Reykjavíkurdætur – “Turn This Around”, 625 votes (31.94%)
  2. Sigga, Beta & Elín – “Með hækkandi sól”, 623 votes (31.83%)
  3. Katla – “Þaðan af”, 425 votes (21.72%)
  4. Stefán Óli – “Ljósið”, 181 votes (9.25%)
  5. Amarosis – “Don’t You Know”, 103 votes (5.26%)

Total votes: 1,957

Grand final show details

Söngvakeppnin 2022 is hosted by Björg Magnúsdóttir, Jón Jónsson and Ragnhildur Steinunn Jónsdóttir.

After performing in Icelandic during the semi-finals, those that reach the grand final must perform in the language they intend to sing at Eurovision, should they win Söngvakeppnin 2022 and be selected as Iceland’s entry.

The winner of the grand final will be determined over two rounds. In the first, a 50/50 split of viewer and jury votes will select the two super-finalists. The final decision in the super final will be made solely by public vote.

What do you think of the results? Are Reykjavíkurdætur your favourites to win Söngvakeppnin 2022 as well? Let us know in the comments below.

How sick are people to vote for boring ballads this year. Now we have 40 songs, 30-34 are ballads… My godness. The worst Eurovision EVER!!!

Sigga, Beta & Elín are a moment. I have a feeling this might take the win tonight, since it’s very authentic and warm. I believe the Icelanders will appreciate it!

Edit: It also feels very Icelandic in both the lyrics and the melody so the voters and the jury might relate.

Anybody from Iceland here? I would love some local insight about who may be the actual frontrunner, since the international fandom seems very divided.

Happy to hear Katla will sing in Icelandic! It makes the song much stronger IMO.

Some people: Eurovision 2022 is going to be boring and bad.

Iceland and other countries recently: Ta, Ta, Turn this around! Turn this around now, turn this around!

I want to see Reykjavíkurdætur because they will be continuing the chain of the different that Iceland has been going in and it has been working so they should try again

I really, really, REALLY want Katla to win. The other two choices are strong too, but I just fell in love with Katlas song and I really need to see it in Turin.

This is the classic battle between experiencing the dawn during a night out at the club, or experiencing the dawn bursting out across a tranquil lake on a quiet, still morning.

I enjoy both!

Well, Eurovision 2022 is all about lakes and mosquitoes then. Let’s have some party to balance!

We could use some more uptempo entries.
