If you haven’t fallen in love with the UK’s Eurovision 2022 star Sam Ryder, then watch this video. And if you’re already vibing to his entry and unique timbre of voice, well you can watch it too.
Speaking on This Morning — the flagship show of commercial broadcaster ITV — the “SPACE MAN” singer fielded a question about whether he’s worried about where he might place on the Eurovision scoreboard.
He gave the perfect answer, explaining that his love of his fans and the song contest far outweighs any jitters about ranking lowly. He positive, affirming response was so surprising to co-host Josie Gibson that she gasped and said, “ohhh!”
TikTok sensation @SamRyderMusic is hopeful that his fantastic song 'Space Man' will take @Eurovision 2022 by storm ? We absolutely love his energy, go Sam! ?? pic.twitter.com/Y5CAO2x6YN
— This Morning (@thismorning) March 16, 2022
“Believe me, it’s something I considered so much before saying yes to the opportunity,” he told hosts Josie and Phillip Schofield.
“For all of that, Phil, I love it so much. I’ve been watching it since I was a kid and my enthusiasm is just so much greater than my fear.”
“I love singing and singing is about connecting with people. And it’s connecting with those people that have been supporting you. And for me over the past two years, so many amazing, lovely people around Europe have been watching my videos on social media and rooting for me.”
“To be able to go over there and go to Turin on May the 14th and sing for some of those people, I can’t think of the boxes right that I’m not ticking as a singer or as an artist and a performer.”
“If I let fear of where I come on a scoreboard define what I want to do with it — in any aspect of my life. Right now it’s Eurovision. But I’m sure there’s gonna be things later on in my life that I don’t want fear to define. I want to go there and sing my head off.”
Are you loving Sam’s vibe? Are you one of the people who have been supporting him during the pandemic? Let us know in the comments box below.
Definetely a top five song! UK,welcome back!
could this be top 5 i think so
nothing wrong with sam ryder’s song. it’s just very average. however this is a step in the right direction for the uk
I like it. Will vote for the UK from Armenia
UK sent better songs in previous decade than this
Agree, an utterly forgetful attempt.
even Scooch was better
He is one of my favorites artists this year.
Best UK entry since 2009, I wish best of luck for it and I think the song is much better than Sweden’s song. No matter Sweden sends a song, it’s always reacted with nice comments but when UK finally sends finally great song, Many people react with scepticism. I personally want another country to win this contest and UK deserves it; both vocals and song is great 🙂
Totally agree!
I’m sorry, but this song doesn’t have winner vibes at all…..why do certain people every year big up our entry without any justification. They then moan when it tanks on the scoreboard. I totally agree that it better than the majority of our recent entries but that is far from being a winner. There are many better songs this year. Another point to make is that if Europe doesn’t like us, which is always thrown around every year, how could we possibly win with a mediocre song ????
These downvotes are hilarious.
Brits have one decent entry in a decade and think it’s instantly a winner. No amount of downvotes will make this lacklustre song win. Y’all keep yourselves busy with downvoting though, if it makes you feel like you’ll win, go ahead!
It’s not about winning though, is it? For the UK, even getting in the top 20 is a miracle.
Proves my point even further.
No one said it’s instantly a winner. The uk is just excited that the bbc have taken it seriously for the first time and that we have a song we can be proud of. Just like the 20 times we won and/ or came second.
Scroll down, read the comments. People genuinely think this will win.
hang on
i have been reading all the posts and comments each time the UK song is the story. the overwhelming response is “this is much better” and “its a song we can finally be proud of” . I’ve seen only a few posts where people say “this is going to win” and actually these have been from people in other countries. so your comments that Brits instantly think instantly is a winner is totally wrong. so stop stirring rubbish
Can I ask how you know the comments from people who think this will win are not from the UK? Very bold statement. Have a look on Twitter, Brits genuinely think this will win.
And why does it matter to you if Brits think it might win. Whats wrong with them having a bit of hope in their country and supporting their entry. If you dont like the song thats fine thats your opinion but that doesnt mean everybody has to feel the same way you do.
We will have to agree to disagree….
But just look at all the comments under the you tube video
Yes it’s hilarious because as said it has zero winner vibes and would be even worse than Azerbaijan 2011 win.
“why do certain people every year big up our entry”… I’m not British, but when was the last time anyone “big up” the UK entry?! I’ve been watching Eurovision for 20+ years and following pre-Eurovision season for over 10 years, that literally never happened (unless maybe with Blue, but was not really watching pre-contest odds those years).
To be fair, it happened to a certain extent with James Newman. But back then, people only said his songs shouldn’t finish within the bottom five, because they were nice. Yet ‘nice’ is just what gets you there and has you end up behind abysmal stuff like Jendrik. Also, that was before we saw the plastic trumpets and his leather jacket. This year, UK can actually go places. It’s not gonna win (Ukraine will and nobody should fool himself about it, tbh) and it might also miss out on the top five, but a Top 10 result seems fairly realistic… Read more »
Where have you been. Every year the BBC over hype our entries so that when we have a disappointing finish they can use all the clichéd excuses. Many people on this forum aways overestimate how good our songs are. For goodness sake they said how good Electro Velvet and Josh Dubovie was. If that doesn’t tell you all you need to know then what will.
the BBC are not going to rubbish a song they have chosen for the UK, it would make themselves look stupid, of course they are going to encourage positivity
Fans of every country should be able to get behind their entry and dream of winning. Last year’s voting was an unpleasant experience for UK fans so let us dream. Every point this year for the UK will feel like a little victory.
You’re not even close to being sorry.
I hope he does very well, if only to silence those Brits who think Europe won’t vote for them because of Brexit. I just hope that if he comes 12th they will still be satisfied, because that would still be a massive step up for Britain. It will depend on the staging if this song does really well, the way it was staged at the One Show was pretty cheesy and unconvincing so the jury is still out on that.
i think you mean “silence the UK media” who think Europe wont vote because of Brexit. I believe most intelligent UK citizens fully understand the poor votes are down to our awful songs in recent years (decades)
Let’s hope so. It’s always a mystery to me when the British entry doesn’t even become a hit in their own country, they’re indignant that Europe doesn’t like it.
Winner potential.. His vocal combined with killer staging and we could possibly go to London next year
Agree with the winner potential but definitely not hosting it in London and Manchester.
Somewhere like Coventry or Newcastle would be more appropriate and definitely cheaper also, London has hosted it so many times, we need a city that needs the exposure and Coventry fits the bill.
It’s been in England seven times already, though. Cardiff might be nice.
Scotland has been completely forgotten for decades now, so that might be nice too.
given England and Scotland have hosted it should really be offered to Wales or even northern Ireland.
most major UK cities have large arena’s and as Malmo and Kiev proved, you don’t need a massive arena to be a good host.
the whole package has to be considered though such as hotel rooms, transport links, space for press and technical crews etc.
of course its all wishful thinking at the moment, but we can dream 🙂
This is a great entry. A small step in the right direction for the UK at ESC.
I’m not sure why most Brits think this will win? Considering Sam Ryder’s vocals, this song does NOTHING for him. I think a BIG factor for songs doing well at Eurovision is if Gen Z connects with it, and from what I’ve seen, they don’t connect with this… at all! The elder generations will love this though, it has a distinct Elton John vibe to it.
This will be lucky to make it to the left side of the scoreboard.
It’s not brits that are saying he’s going to win. Most of those comments come from non British people.
What I don’t get is why when Spain and the UK are predicted to do well. People see it as only Spainish/British people hyping it up.
Can I ask why you think most positive comments come from non-British people? You do realise the majority of Wiwibloggs readers are in fact British? The downvotes towards any negativity to the UK’s song further prove my point. To sum up, the majority of positive comments for this song are from Brits… obviously.
When it comes to Spain, it’s clear why everyone loves it. Chanel is serving perfectly executed vocals and choreography on a Latin dance track. Everyone loves a stunning pop diva that can actually sing AND dance.
Spanish here! Many eurofans all around Europe follow Wiwibloggs. I am also tired of the fact that, if people like the Spanish song, it’s only us Spaniards overrating it. So I perfectly understand the British fans. The only country whose entry I see overrated and hyped year after year is Sweden, and everyone seems to accept it as a normal fact in ESC. I totally love Space man and Sam Ryder. Many people here do. In fact we just have two ESC entries in the Spotify virals right now: the British and the Rumanian one. But in the case of… Read more »
Robyn is from Oceania, Luis is Spanish, only William and Deban are English but they’ve got connections elsewhere.
The people you listed are the wiwibloggers, not the readers.
The readers of wiwibloggs are majority British.
How do you know where everybody is from?
He has a donkey with large b^lls, and only touching them Apollo can see the future, present etc
I can guarantee Spain will be top 3 if not a winner this year. It’s an unbelievable entry from them. This song is great. I think it deserved a top 10 finish which would be monumental for U.K. But I do think Irelands song this year is better than this song. Brooke has star quality all over her. I hope she really does deliver this song in the best way possible as it deserves the best staging.
Cyprus has given a great entry this year too. Different to what they’ve given us which is great! I’m excited.
Yes at last someone who speaks, or rather writes common sense. You have bypassed all the hype and see the song for what it is…..very underwhelming. I first heard it on Ken Bruce who always champions the UK entry every year. The build up about his incredible vocals and fantastic song made the actual first listen very much of an anti-climax. Yes, he does have a distinctive voice and the song is not awful, but the lyrics about speaking to satellites etc are very cringe. I agree with Apollo, and think around 15 to 20, which isn’t a disaster. Even… Read more »
I’m British, trust me, none of us are saying it’s going to win. At most I’m seeing Brits that are hopeful it could sneak into the Top 10, Top 5 at most.
After the last few years we’re more than happy just to be competitive again.
But come on, look at the downvotes for anyone who criticises the UK’s entry.
Seems like British eurofans are the new Spanish eurofans.
Example up here past your comment.
As someone from UK, I think part of the problem is that we don’t compare our entries to the other songs. It’s a competition!! Yes this song is really good but that doesn’t automatically means it does well, you have to compare it with the other countries
Wow, what an amazing answer! I’m liking him more and more now. Space Man is a great song, but if UK have a really unique staging, they could come top 5! Maybe they could even win, but I’m not sure we should go that far. Anyway, what’s with this Schofield guy? He’s unbelievable lol
Yeah his negativity was irritating.
Bold prediction : UK will do better than last year with….. 2 points overall
such a negative nelly!
Always
Even a deaf jury will score this song top 10. The song is fab
I love this guy ! His energy, his looks, and his song
As RuPaul would say
“Your a Winner Baby”
I hope he wins !
This song is very middle-of-the-road for me this year, but this guy is just a doll! What lovely energy. Excited to see how he elevates this on the big stage.
The UK is definitely my winner this year. LOVE the song, love the guy. London 2023!
I love this guy & the song. I hope he will win!
The United Kingdom’s last victory in the Eurovision Song Contest was a quarter-of-a-century ago! 😮
I don’t think he has to be afraid of the right side of the scoreboard. Hopefully, he won’t see it once during the voting. Go UK!
Don’t usually go for the long haired guys (sorry)
But my good, there’s something very cute about Sam .
Someone’s sounding picky now the pandemic restrictions have been lifted.
Beggars can’t be choosers Jimmy 😉
They can be cheeky though 😛
Love his reaction!
My favourite!
He just gives off that vibe of someone you can’t help but root for, much like Dadi Freyr or Gjon’s Tears last year. Really hoping he ends up experiencing the same kind of success in May, would be more than deserved.
As a Brit, I’m already proud to have Sam representing us – regardless of where we end up on the leaderboard. That being said I’d be happy with a Top 10 finish. Ecstatic with a Top 5. If we win, someone may need to revive me from the shock.
A TOP 10 finish is really realistic and well deserved ….and I say that as a german guy. That would give the UK the energy and push for good results and songs in the next 10 years.
I am Spanish and the UK is my favourite entry this year. I really believe you have to dream high!
I have a feeling with an Insta handle of SamHairWolfRyder he is going to get along very well with another ESC act.
To me, this year is between the UK and Italy.
The more I see of Sam, the more I think he’s the UK’s secret weapon. Space Man is a 6-7/10 song, nothing super special – but I really believe he’s going to elevate it on the night. Even before the grand final, people are going to fall in love with him, his personality, and his hair (what is his secret?) There’s a lot of momentum building behind the UK, but I think more of it is for Sam Ryder himself and less so the song. If the BBC/TaP can get the staging right then I really think they might sneak… Read more »
What’s the secret to Sam Ryder’s healthy hair?
This gives me “Embers” vibes. It sounds nice but it will flop live… ? what a shame…
Yep .., I agree .shame on you
He is really good live.
Air fresheners can’t mask a bad smell.
… and great vocals can’t distract from a bad song.
Germany 2018 says hello.
It’s a ‘bad song’ to YOU. It’s only an opinion, not a fact. The way you’re throwing it around the comments sections is comical, like you are an oracle.
Let’s remember these comments when the competition is over and revisit and see just how ‘bad’ the song really was
UK’s song in 2021 was terrible, vocals couldnt even be heard last year ?
He is an amazing guy, very charismastic and down to earth.Honestly, all of the UK representatives have been very humble and sweet (maybe exclude 2012, 2013) and they have to go through so many uncomfortable questions about Eurovision… I dislike the host, he’s soo freaking ridiculous with the whole narrative ‘ Europe hates us’ as if he can remember any of the UK entries… I need someone to ridicule him and anyone else making such ridiculous statements about Europe hating on UK which justifies the zero points. Someone needs to remind them that a) Israel won despite the controversy with… Read more »
What could be the secret behind Sam Ryder’s healthy hair?
What could be the secret?
As far as I can see there are no dark circles under his eyes nor spots around his mouth so I assume his liver and spleen are fine. The artists appears to be overall healthy.
He also said that his enthusiasm was larger than his fear and that’s great. Means there’s no terrified mind in his healthy body.
P.S. He looks like a guy who regularly hydrates.
I see you’ve written Konstrakta’s next hit 😉
this comment wins the internet today
kudos to him for doing it in a year that everybody wanted to distance themselves from the fiasco, that takes courage
People were distancing themselves?
He sounds genuinely enthusiastic and I think the voters will reward it.
Meanwhile, the hosts looked like they couldn’t hide disgust lol
I really admire Sam’s enthusiasm, and believe he can really reshape how Joe Public (and the TikTok generation) perceive the contest, and set a good precedent.
I don’t watch This Morning (because it is silly housewife tabloid garbage), but what has Scofield been saying? Sneering? It bothers me how so much of the gutter media berate ESC but lap up dross like X Factor or Love Island. I remember how negative about Blue’s song back in 2011
Phillip Schofield has looked down his nose at Eurovision for many, many years now
Typical British snob who looks down on everything and then goes around saying “everyone hates us” not realising that it’s not all of us it’s just him because he is a prick
It’s amazing how strong an opinion someone can hold about something that they know nothing about.
The UK and their media talking heads being a prime example.
“Housewife tabloid garbage” – your rhetoric is as damaging as the subject of your wrath.
This.

Sam Ryder seems like a REALLY nice guy. Also, he actually has enthusiasm for the contest compared to many people before him. He actually watched the contest since he was young. He’s serious about it AND wants to have fun.
UK deserves a lot of points this year
I think it’s important to remember that This Morning is produced by ITV, one of the BBC’s biggest broadcasting rivals, if not the biggest. Therefore it makes sense for the show to be negative about one of their rival’s main flagship programs. A BBC (or newspaper) interview would be far more positive.
I still believe that if the UK gets the staging right and Sam’s vocal is on point, the UK has a chance to win the whole thing.
Me to, when I listen to eurovision on Spotify, and I’m listening to Sam’s song, I think wow this is such a great song and then get overwhelmingly excited when I remember it is our song for the UK! He deserves to do really well and yes it does somewhat waiver on if he has really good staging and sings it live well (but that’s the same for every artist). I’ve come to the decision I don’t mind where we come on the scoreboard, just really happy to finally have an artist to be really proud and excited for representing… Read more »
I do as well. I’m getting strong winner vibes from the vocal performance on tape, especially at the end. It’s INSANE because i’m British and I never thought we’d have a chance…
I think the reason you believe this is a winner is because… you’re British.
No…the only other song I had winner vibes regarding a UK song was our 2017 one…the others which had better success elsewhere I thought weren’t as good. But is it wrong to simply like something. It doesn’t have to be a winner…right?
Is Philip Schofield the one who tweets every year how it’s all politics?
I hope Sam Ryder is the one to show him how wrong he is.
Yeah, I just found one of his tweets. Complaining about Jamala winning, laughing at her. He thought Joe and Jake deserved it more.
maybe he was into the twinks, just saying
Social media encourages people to say things that will get the most attention and/or gain them popularity (likes, hearts, retweets, +1s, etc). Social media engagement skews heavily towards negativity. Philip Schofield no doubt knows that and will just be tapping into it – saying Eurovision is “all politics” in the UK is no doubt an easy win for that purpose.
I hope it’s purely cynical…no one in their right mind, except for perhaps their parents, could think Joe and Jake deserved to win over Jamala, Sergey, or Dami, etc!
Hopefully he will and he’ll do better…but if he sings well and still does badly, we’ll know what happened!
I really hope he does well, it’s my favourite song this year 🙂
He’s one of my 4 favorites and I have extremely high expectations. If the staging has enough taste (his voice is the stage; Sam doesn’t need a lot around him) he’s winning it. To me is clear as water. There’s no competition to his voice and how powerful his song has the potential to be on stage.
He seems such a beautiful man, inside and out. I wish him all the success.
UK will win the Eurovision Song Contest 2022. Forget the overhyped Italy and Sweden & The pity party Ukraine (even though I respect the hell out Kalush Orchestra) The UK is the strongest song this year.
… to you
Based.
I am with you in almost everything but one thing: I do not think Italy is overrated (on the other hand, Sweden is indeed, like any other year). But, having said that, if people have to choose between Italy and the UK, I think they will choose the UK, because nobody really likes the same winner two years in a row.
Philip Schofield was completely out of order interviewing Sam, but Sam handled it like a pro. It doesn’t come as a suprise as Schofield has slagged off the contest many times before in previous years…
And those in Europe wonder why our best artists/songwriters don’t want to put their names forward
At least Josie looked genuinely interested and excited for Sam!
In 2017, we sent one of the best entries ever and it still happened to flop. I get where Phillip is coming from, but if Sam Ryder does well this year, this could VERY well be the year we do well and are proved wrong. If you want this to happen, please vote for him!
2017 saw a left side position for the UK with the juries. It just happened to be an unusual year where every country voted for the same six songs. Never ever had the top six countries scored more than 200 points.
No matter what happens, I love this song. Just need a good stage performance and I am sure the juries will like it a lot. Who knows what the televoters will think though…
I think he could turn this horrible trend of the uk around someway. he’s got the right attitude
I know he’s fourth in the betting odds already, but a part of me still wonders why he’s not an even bigger favorite.
I believe it’s because he’s from the UK and people are being cautious…
I mean Italy and Sweden are ranked 2 and 3, and are hugely emotional performances which carry more of a punch than the UK does in that respect. Sam can sing incredibly well, but the song does nearly reach its climax in the first chorus, and then there’s only so much he can add to it in the final bit. Also Ukraine is number 1 which is understandable. So I think we should be ecstatic to be 4th in the odds 🙂 I think only time will tell on the night with the live performances as Sam can really shine… Read more »
I honestly get more emotional over Sam Ryder and Maro’s songs rather than theirs.
He’s so huggable
I was disappointed with Phil Schofields negative comments about block voting but Sam’s response was brilliant, pointing out that Schofield wouldn’t want negativity If he was just starting out on TV. I hadn’t seen Sam before on TikTok but in two TV interviews so far he has come across as such a lovely person. I really hope he does well in the contest and beyond.
It was definitely something that happened in the 00s due to the Eastern block voting but that seems to be in the past now…and Russia have just been kicked out!
Such a lovely guy … that Scofield thing though …?
You could see how badly he wanted to say the real reason why the UK has done badly in recent years is because of the mediocre, lacklustre, middle of the road entries.
2017:
2017 was an ok song elevated by out of this world staging. Without the staging, the song wouldn’t have done as well.
I think it’s tricky because he went on to say how he’s worked with James Newman. James got 0 points but he’s also a Grammy award-winning songwriter and revered in the industry, Sam is sensible not to burn his bridges!
