The participating artists of Eurovision 2022 aren’t the only ones who will showcase their talents this May. Word has it that the Eurovision 2022 hosts — Laura Pausini, Mika and Alessandro Cattelan — will all have their own moments to shine — as both opening acts and interval acts.

Speaking to Italian newspaper La Repubblica, Mika said he won’t just be hosting.

“I will also perform and I am thinking of a provocative performance. It will be a surprise. Eurovision is not just a show, it is like an Expo but concentrated in a few days.”

Eurovision 2022 interval acts

On top of that, sources close to the production of the Eurovision Song Contest tell Wiwibloggs that hosts Laura Pausini and Mika will perform a duet during the interval of Semi-Final 2.

Unlike with Madonna at Eurovision 2019, both Laura and Mika remain at the top of their game and are able to wow vocally, as well as with their stage presence. This promises to be a big moment.

Semi-Final 2 will also see Alessandro have his own moment by opening the show. Our sources say he will face some sort of backstage chaos — perhaps in a dressing room — and will rely on humour and his fancy footwork to make it to the stage. They tell us it will “last about the length of a Eurovision song,” which we take to mean three minutes.

Laura — among the best-known Italian singers globally — will rightfully get another chance to shine. Our girl is said to be opening the grand final.

The EBU recently told Heads of Delegation that peace will be a huge theme of this year’s event — a timely and appropriate choice in light of the war in Ukraine. Given that the slogan is “The Sound of Beauty,” we imagine an opening act entitled “The Sound of Peace.”

During the interval, Eurovision 2021 winners Måneskin will reprise their entry, while Mika will deliver the performance he hinted at with La Repubbclica

For years he’s been asked about Eurovision and whether he’d ever considered competing. He made it clear that he holds the show in high esteem, so surely this will be a special moment for him too.

“I don’t know, it never happened. But there are some things about Eurovision that I really liked. In England it has always been a sacred evening, first with the family, then in the pub with too many beers.”

What do you think about the opening and interval acts? And do you have any clues about Semi-Final 1? Let us know in the comments box below.

I’d quite like to see Emma Marrone. She didn’t bring her best song or performance to Eurovision in 2014 and I think she deserves an opportunity to showcase her voice with a medley of her hit songs before the Eurovision audience.

Oh yeeees. I would love to see Emma Marrone (kisses from France btw). Her song at the San Remo Festival 2022, conducted by Francesca Michielin, was beyond beautiful. Just add “La rappresentante di lista” in the interval and that would be a memorable italian ESC night!

I like that for eurofans there should be tens of italian singers on the eurostage performing in only 3 interval acts. There will not be enough time. Additionally, I also like those who claim any singer, who is not even connected to the Eurovision, like La Rappresentante di Lista, should be on that stage. Italy has thousands of singers. Why don’t have them all on the stage, too? Ot’s our italian Eurovision and RAI will choose who will be on that stage. And, sorry, La Rappresentante di Lista has nothing to do with the Eurovision. There are other singers, related… Read more »

“Additionally, I also like those who claim any singer, who is not even connected to the Eurovision, like La Rappresentante di Lista, should be on that stage”. Well, well well… breath in, breath out, calm down and it’s going to be fine. By the way, have you ever heard of the expression “wishful thinking”? That was just that.

They did that wonderfully at Sanremo, for Italian audiences. I think that’s enough. Not because she doesn’t deserve more, but just because most of the viewers for Torino won’t appreciate her.

I beg your pardon, but I disagree. I think you are not Italian, because you don’t know how much Raffaella has done for the return of Eurovision in Italy, in Rai. She has invited several eurovision singers in her show Carràmba che sorpresa in 2008, when no one in italy was interested in eurovision. She was the only one that promoted and supported the ESC. When Rai resumed broadcasting Eurovision in 2011, they immediately thought of her to comment on it. Last year the director of Rai1 had thought of proposing to Raffaella the hosting of Torino2022. Then unfortunately what… Read more »

Yeah, I do know that. That’s why I said the Sanremo one was enough – Italian audiences have already seen it, Torino would just be doing it twice. Most viewers outside of Italy will not know about what you have said.

Something small, maybe, like Vienna 2015 did for Austria’s first winner – or even performers doing one of her songs without it being about Raffaella. Nothing like that has happened before, and there were plenty of people who deserved it.

It’s okay for people to disagree. Ciao.

This is crazy, because it seems Måneskin will not perform in the ASC Final, even though american fans love them and it may be a blast to the weak audience. So i don’t understand why the winner of ASC should be on ESC stage. ASC final is the 9th of may. First semifinal of ESC will be 10th of may. Probably Måneskin will open the first semifinal, too, more than having an interval act in the final. So it is difficult, but not impossible, for them to be in Los Angeles around 9pm PST of the 9th of may and… Read more »

If they actually showcase some of the SR winners that didn’t have the chance to go to Eurovision, then the 2007 winner, Simone Cristicchi, should really be the first name on that list. Would have easily made for a worthy ESC winner as well.

Knew that the winning songs didn’t always also go to ESC, but never realized the actual number was that low… I guess they still had that option available tho, unlike the one just mentioned above? Anyway, great to see them being rewarded for their attitude change from the last few years, Italy has been by far my favorite country since their return.

Ah, well. Love to hear that Laura will be performing, but I didn’t enjoy Mika’s part in their performance at Sanremo, so all I can do is hope that he’ll improve on that for the Eurovision stage.

(I also hope he brushes up on his acting skills, since if he hates the show as much as he’s previously indicated, it’ll take a lot more than a poorly faked smile to get past that attitude seeping through! It’s a shame, but I’m sure that I’ll enjoy the contest in the end, regardless.)

The longest interval in history. All the possible interval acts included as well as Madonna squeezed in. I don’t know about others but I am way to excited about the impending voting sequence to fully enjoy the interval and I don’t know why it’s becoming so long. I mean the organisers have an extra 30 minutes now with the jury vote announcement to handle technical issues so there isn’t an excuse

No need to start about Salvador Sobral. Also, he apologized meanwhile.

Mika last called the whole of Eurovision trash in 2015. So even if he only referred to that single year (which he wasn’t), he’d still have called Mans Zelmerlöw, Il Volo, Loic Nottet, Aminata and many more ‘terrible’.

Well … who does he think he is? For the vast majority, is his only claim to fame was ‘Grace Kelly’ 15 years ago. To this day one the most if not the most annoying song of all time.

I hope whatever Laura sings at the start of the final will be in Italian. I’ll like it whatever it is, but she just does not sound natural in English – almost as if she does not understand a word she is singing.

This opinion is based solely on that one ABBA song she sang at Sanremo, to be fair.

Ukraine is being bombed and civilians are literally being killed. I think if the contest wants to say “guys please have peace”, they can do that and it is justified. Also if Ukraine wins, so what? At the end of the day, Eurovision is a fun song competition and nothing more.
