The Eurovision 2022 season is now in full swing and no doubt fans will have the songs from this year’s contest on repeat until we crown a winner in May. But that doesn’t mean we forget about the artists from past contests – they’re still brining us a lot of new music to enjoy.

Contrary to the commonly perpetuated myth about the song contest killing careers, we’re always thrilled to report that singers associated with Eurovision are thriving.

Here is our latest weekly roundup with a selection of just some of the songs and music videos released recently by Eurovision stars.

New music from Eurovision artists: 2022 | Week 14

Antique – “Ti Ti”

It’s happening!!! Greece’s Eurovision 2001 act have reunited after almost 20 years. The duo, which includes Eurovision 2005 champion Helena Paparizou as well as Nikos Panagiotidis, have released the new single “Ti Ti”. It’s a cover of the 1992 hit by Giorgos Alkaios, who himself represented Greece at Eurovision in 2010. Antique update the song for the present time and serve us a catchy Greek pop song for their comeback.

Cleo – “Mniej znaczy więcej”

After some significant delays, Cleo’s album vinyLova should finally be with us shortly. While we wait the last few weeks, Poland’s Eurovision 2014 star has released a new single from the LP. “Mniej znaczy więcej” (“Less is more”) is a cheery pop song about taking things slowly and enjoying every moment as it happens: “Sometimes less is more / I listen with my heart, I don’t want to miss a day”. The song has been included on the soundtrack of the upcoming Polish film Detektyw Bruno (Detective Bruno), and so the music video includes clips from the film.

Benjamin Ingrosso & Moonica Mac – “Till slutet av augusti”

Benjamin Ingrosso continues to bring music and food together. In the latest episode of Benjamin’s, the Eurovision 2018 star had the chance to sing alongside fellow Swedish singer Moonica Mac. The pair performed a duet version of Moonica’s song “Till slutet av augusti” (“Until the end of August”). It’s a faithful cover of the original, keeping the soft and gentle melody. The lyrics are directed towards someone who is leaving their lover, with Benjamin and Moonica suggesting they’ll regret this decision: “It is a bit sad that even though you have a choice/ You do not see my kindness as something you want to keep / One day you will feel that life has past you by / Then you will regret that we didn’t turn out to be / And that hurts me some”.

Netta – “I Love My Nails”

“Stupidly wasted the peak of my prime on you / You will never love me like I love you / Baby I don’t care cause I, I love my nails”. Netta is putting herself first, or specifically, putting her nails first. Israel’s Eurovision 2019 winner has released an entire song about her decorated fingertips. While on first glance the lyrical content might seem odd, there is a personal meaning within it for Netta:

“Loving your nails is a metaphor for loving yourself. Painting and building my nails is self-care for me. It helped me this year with rejection and put the colour back in my life. I paint a picture of myself on them. ‘put my heart on my sleeve,’ they say, so I put mine on my nails. When I was young, I used to go with my mother to the beauty salon. Beauticians are the best therapists, if you didn’t know. The process of building her nails was actually about building herself once again every week. This ritual became her medicine for her, and I guess it runs in the family. Show up for you. Love your nails. Love yourself. I hope you love this song.”

zalagasper feat. Blackpanda – “carta”

Eurovision fans know all about making friends with other people from across the world. And international friendship is what zalagasper are celebrating in their new indie pop song “carta”. Slovenia’s Eurovision 2019 representatives have teamed up with Spanish duo Blackpanda for the single. Singing from their respective countries, they go back and forth, discussing how they can keep their friendship alive at such a distance: “Don’t forget me, I’m writing a letter for you / Reading your letters, I keep every moment / And when we meet, we will share our happiness”.

Elina Nechayeva – “Ave Maria”

No, Elina Nechayeva is not covering the classic Schubert song. This is a brand new classical piece with the same title. Though once you know the title lyric, then you know the lyrics of the entire song – Estonia’s Eurovision 2018 star sings the Catholic prayer on repeat for three minutes while accompanied by a string quartet. Speaking about the song, Elina notes:

“This wonderful piece, composed by talented Oleg Vrona, is a true remedy for the soul during troubled and dark times. Beautiful Ave Maria soothes stressed mind and shows the light even on the darkest hour.”

Ben Cristovao & Marcell – “Nevim”

Eurovision 2021 star Ben Cristovao has teamed up with Marcell for the single “Nevim” (“I don’t know”). The Czech artists deliver a pop rock offering that also has an added rap element thanks to Ben’s verse. Lyrically, Ben and Marcelll discuss the difficulty of finding your path through life: “And I just don’t know where I am in that story / Whether at the beginning of the sentence or the last letter / And I just don’t ever know who I really am / I don’t know, I don’t know”.

Beth & Laura Andrés – Natural Woman

After a series of singles, Spanish singer Beth and pianist Laura Andrés have now released their joint album Natural Woman. It features ten cover songs, including their recent releases “Time After Time”, “One of Us” and “I Wanna Dance With Somebody”. They’re all stripped back renditions of the original songs, with Beth usually only singing alongside Laura’s piano accompaniment.

MIRO & Pavell – “Bez limit”

Bulgaria’s Eurovision 2010 singer MIRO joins Pavell for the new single “Bez limit” (“No limit”). It’s an R&B-rap offering, with MIRO singing the chorus while Pavell delivers rap verses in between. MIRO notes in the music video’s comments that he wasn’t initially sure about collaborating, as he thought Pavell sang the chorus well on his own. But Pavell insisted and the duet ensued.

Vlado Kalember & Srebrna Krila feat. Ana Rucner & Darko Capo – “Ana”

Three Eurovision acts unite for this next song – Vlado Kalember (Yugoslavia 1984), his band Srebra Krila (Yugoslavia 1988) and cellist Ana Rucner (Bosnia & Herzegovina 2016). They’re also joined by singer Darko Capo for a new cover of the song “Ana”. It was originally released by Srebrna Krila in 1978 (when Vlado Kalember was lead vocalist) and it became a hit for the group. This new duet version means there’s added harmonies, while Ana Rucner enriches the instrumentation.

Emma Muscat & Twin Melody – “CIAO”

If you only discovered Emma Muscat through MESC and Eurovision 2022, then you might be surprised to discover her usual style of music is rather different to the songs she’s presented at the contests. Instead, the Maltese singer is known for upbeat pop songs, such as her recent collaboration with Spanish duo Twin Melody. The trio bring us “CIAO”, a catchy offering that gets us in the mood for some summer sun.

Fr. Rob Galea feat. Michela – “Welcome Here”

Michela is taking us to church – the Catholic Church in particular. Malta’s Eurovision 2019 representative recently featured on “Welcome Here” by Roman Catholic priest Fr. Rob Galea. It was used as the official song for Pope Francis’s visit to Malta at the start of April. Michela and Fr. Rob Galea welcome both the pope and God into the country: “You’re welcome here / Let your love rain down / Into our hearts again”.

Moran Mazor – “שבע”

Moran Mazor is hoping to find a partner who will take her on romantic holidays. In her new single “שבע” (“Seven”), Israel’s Eurovision 2013 star sings of the desire to receive real affection, which she can also repay back: “So maybe you’ll come to me at seven? / I made us a meal, buy me a good wine / And when will you take me to nature? / A romantic vacation in the north, what more could I ask for?”. Musically, the song is a delicate piano ballad with Moran’s emotive delivery at its core.

Boris Novković & Ja’Smin – “E, moj brate”

Croatia’s Eurovision 2005 star Boris Novković has collaborated with Ja’Smin for the new song “E, moj brate” (“Well, my brother”). The pair deliver a soft rock track with particular use of acoustic guitar. Talking about the song, Boris said it “outlines the spirit and pulse of the time in which we live and all that the world has been going through in recent years”.

Konstrakta – “Nobl” and “Mekano”

These songs won’t be new to fans of Konstrakta. During Pesma za Evroviziju 22, the Serbian singer uploaded TRIPTIH, a triptych of music videos that included her Eurovision 2021 entry “In Corpore Sano”. The other two songs were “Nobl” and “Mekano”. In case you’d missed them, both of these songs have now made it to streaming services for your listening pleasure.

Which of these new songs is your favourite? Have we missed out on any? Do you have any artists you want to shout out to? Let us know in the comments.
