Over the last few weeks, the Wiwi Jury – our in-house team of music unprofessionals – has been reviewing and rating the 40 competing songs in Eurovision 2022. Having now travelled across the globe to each participating country, we now have the final results of our personal ranking.

In the end, it was a very tight race at the top – only 0.03 separated the scores of the top two. But we’re now happy to reveal that the Wiwi Jury’s favourite entry of Eurovision 2022 is Sweden’s Cornelia Jakobs with “Hold Me Closer”.

Cornelia Jakobs wins the Wiwi Jury 2022

When taking an average score across 18 jurors from different countries and with different musical tastes, it’s often hard to earn a high result. However, Cornelia Jakobs managed to cut through the competition and connect with the vast majority of our jurors.

Wiwiblogger Pablo scored Sweden a maximum ten points and was singing Cornelia’s praises:

“’Hold Me Closer’ just feels right. It feels right that it earned its way to be in Eurovision, and it for sure will feel right if this takes the crystal mic. It has that quality of maybe not being your number one song, but managing to hit the right buttons so precisely, you can’t help but love it in the end. Robyn meets Adele, Swedish pop at its best. Cornelia’s husky yet youthful voice smoothly travels through the tender and thumping parts of this song and every single part feels extremely satisfying. With this song, Sweden firmly cements the fact that it wants and will try to get that seventh win.”

Cornelia received an overall average score of 8.94 from the Wiwi Jury. It’s an impressive feat.

Hot on Cornelia’s heels is a fiery señorita whose booty has truly hypnotised the Wiwi Jury. Spain’s Chanel finishes a very close second in the 2022 Wiwi Jury with her upbeat Latin pop entry “SloMo”.

Our very own William is a big fan of what Chanel is offering at Eurovision 2022:

“Fans of Spain’s Eurovision 2022 act have been using the mango emoji to share their love of Chanel’s juicy entry. But given the spice and enduring burn of her performance, a chilli pepper seems more appropriate. ‘SloMo’ catches fire thanks to its infectious beat and enticing raggaeton feels. But Chanel takes the flames even higher with her eye-popping choreography, which would leave even J. Lo needing to stretch. From the strobe light effects to the killer dance break, this production is a dizzying slice of joy and awe. If a Eurovision winner is based on entertainment, this is easily the most perfect entry of the year.”

Chanel earned an overall average score of 8.91 from the Wiwi Jury, truly making her one of our top favourites of the year.

Highest Wiwi Jury scores 2012-2022

Analysing scores between the Wiwi Jury results of past contests is not completely comparable, since the number of jurors and their identities vary between years. However, Cornelia and Chanel have managed to earn two of the highest scores since the Wiwi Jury’s inception in 2012.

Our top-ten highest scores (of Eurovision Wiwi Juries, not including national finals) are now as follows:

  1. Sweden 2012: Loreen with “Euphoria” (9.25)
  2. Netherlands 2019: Duncan Laurence – “Arcade” (9.15)
  3. Italy 2017: Francesco Gabbani – “Occidentali’s Karma” (8.96)
  4. Sweden 2022: Cornelia Jakobs – “Hold Me Closer” (8.94)
  5. Spain 2022: Chanel – “SloMo” (8.91)
  6. Italy 2019: Mahmood – “Soldi” (8.8)
  7. Switzerland 2021: Gjon’s Tears – “Tout l’univers” (8.77)
  8. France 2021: Barbara Pravi – “Voilà” (8.73)
  9. Russia 2016: Sergey Lazarev – “You Are the Only One” (8.7)
  10. Belgium 2017: Blanche – “City Lights” (8.67)

It’s important to note that the Wiwi Jury is not, and has never been, designed to be a prediction. Rather, it’s a way for us to share our personal pre-contest favourites with y’all.

We’ve enjoyed reading many of your own reviews over the past few weeks and finding out how your own personal rankings differ from our own.

Opinions will no doubt change once rehearsals start and we get to see exactly what each act will be bringing to the Eurovision 2022 stage in Turin.

What do you make of the Wiwi Jury 2022 results? Do you agree? How different is your own ranking of this year’s songs? Let us know in the comments below.

Thumbs down for yellow and blue.
Stop trying to make Eurovision political event. People want to have fun with their families for three nights. Every other news station reporting about war, i want three night free of it.

Nobody cares that Israel is killing Palestinians, ebu and Europe are pretending nothing is happening there.

If Ukraine wins with that song I’ll be pissed.

Cornelia es la señal de que ya va siendo hora de que Suecia vuelva a ganar. Top 3 con España y Países Bajos.
