Lithuania Monika Liu Sentimentai Eurovision 2022 first rehearsal
EBU / Nathan Reinds

She wowed the Lithuanian nation with her sentimental and sensual performance. And now Monika Liu has begun casting a spell over fans across the rest of Europe as well.

A few weeks ago, we asked you which of the Baltic countries – Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania –  has the best entry at Eurovision 2022.

Our readers turned out, casting 2,507 votes in total. And Lithuania’s Monika Liu come out on top as your favourite.

Monika Liu a favourite of the Baltic Eurovision 2022 acts

According to our readers, the main fight was between Lithuania and Estonia. But in the end, Lithuania’s Monika Liu snatched the Baltic crown, with 1,113 votes (44.40% of the total.).

Lithuania’s entry has also impressed some of our Wiwi Jury members. This is how Deban reviewed the song prior to rehearsals:

Monika Liu’s entry conjures a timeless romantic quality. Beautifully crafted with the finest materials, and constructed to linger beyond its shelf-life, ‘Sentimentai’ is refreshingly black-tie European ballroom. Sung in the Lithuanian language, but delivered with a Francophone sensibility, this elegant slice of sophisticated pop crosses borders and resonates in the most unusual ways. Definitely Lithuania’s best entry to date.

With only 123 votes less than Lithuania, and finishing in second place, is Estonia’s Stefan. His Spaghetti Western song “Hope” earned 990 votes (39.49%) in total.

We then drop down to Latvia’s Citi Zēni in third place. Their vegetables apparently weren’t as appealing for y’all. “Eat Your Salad” picked up 404 votes (16.11%).

Poll results: Which Baltic country has the best song at Eurovision 2022?

  1. Lithuania: Monika Liu – “Sentimentai” – 44.40%, 1,113 votes
  2. Estonia: Stefan – “Hope” – 39.49%, 990 votes
  3. Latvia: Citi Zēni – “Eat Your Salad” – 16.11%, 404 votes

I’m here hoping Monika Liu is this year’s Eugent Bushpepa, since he was also underestimated by the odds until the very end, but it was actually impossible to deny the quality of his work and his chances were always much higher than predicted. If you can vote on the 1st semi, please give this gem a vote for me!

Funny you should mention bushpepa because he also performed in the number three slot in semifinal one and he qualified. Yes, it was thanks for the jury that he qualified because He got third with them and He missed out on the top 10 of the semi final 1 televoters (11th), But the combo was high enough to make it to the final. Maybe something similar could happen for Lithuania, but We can’t just depend on the juries to help it through. We have to do our part as televoters To help, if you’re from a semi final one country… Read more »

i absolutely love everything about sentimentai. elegant, unique song like no other this year… that manages to be an earworm as well. it’s more of a jury type of song, so they need to do their job and support it heavily.

I really love Monika and her song. I would like to clarify that Semi-final 1 is very strong and Monika, in the last few days, has always been number 11 or 12, so if she doesn’t qualify it’s not only for stage itself. Stop using this excuse to insult Rai or Italy. Italy won last year (thanks to the televote) and deserves to had an amazing show (because it’s absolutely capable)

They will, just not expect everything righ now. They are probably evaluating the damage to give accurate info. Montinaro had explained her point of view, then if you want to continue to blame, do it. But, please, all these toxic comments are ruining the spirit of the festival and you are ruining the most beautiful year for the host country. Do not pretend that in the past there have been no mistake, do not think that everything is always communicated. Just enjoy your show. Italians are the first to want a fantastic show and they are putting all their energy.… Read more »

Man, chill… We will see, the stage is important but not essential

It’s an important part of the performance, but it isn’t all the performance. Who loves the song will vote the same, stop being so superficial.

Mahmood in 2019 had an horrible stage but he came second!

I think that her stage would have been simple anyway, I don’t think that the simple movement of the sun would have changed a lot… But maybe I’m wrong. In any case, accident could happen and Montinaro said that the stage is ok and that the delegations liked it. We will judge during the live show, not during the rehearsals (especially the first one). All countries have a great stage so it’s not a big thing, just relax. Anyway if they can, they will surely fix it

Yes, you’re right, but the stage is great in my opinon. Montinaro said that they want a wow factor during the live show so we can’t see the best part of the stage now. Be hopeful and optimistic. Italy is a great host, it won’t disappoint you

Sentimentai is a magical entry, I hope Rai’s mess doesn’t affect her, but this is just showing us Italy probably doesn’t deserve to host again

Lol this ind of things happen every year, enjoy the show. I love her and I think that if she doesn’t qualify it won’t be for the stage. Besides, it’s not Rai’s fault. We are human and unfortunately accidents happen. Montinaro said that delegations are satisfied and that the stage will be ok

I agree that the last part of my comment might’ve been precipitated and exaggerated but hey, it looked like Rai weren’t addressing the situation properly :/

Yes, at the beginning they said nothing, I can understand. Anyway it’s not only a Rai’s fault

I really like Lithuania this year and I want it to qualify but I am worried nonetheless based off what the bookies are saying and its running order position. Hopefully the juries will rate her very highly!

You can’t just rely on the juries to push Lithuania through the final. You Gotta do your part devote for Lithuania in the televote if you’re from a country in semifinal one.

What does Rai have to do with it? Why should they?

Because she had other plans for the staging, the sun was ment to be involved and now she can’t use it sadly

Because their staging was based on that spinning arc which doesn’t work anymore, so they are forced to come up with some new staging ideas at a very last minute

It’s not Rai’s fault. Also, Montinaro says that they have solved the issue. In general all the stages are beautiful this year and I think that her stage would have been very simple anyway. I love Monika and I hope she will qualify, but if it doesn’t happen I don’t think it will be because of a simple stage. Mahmood in 2019 came second with a terrible stage

And also, we have only a few images and 2 second of video… We’ll talk about it after the live show, now it’s too early

Lithuania was one of the acts that wanted to incorporate the kinetic sun in the staging, but its broken state meant they had to change things in the staging so they couldn’t use their original plans.

Pay attention, Montinaro said that there were issues but the sun can move! Just wait till the live show to blame

I’m actually surprised. I thought Estonia was going to win this poll, but nice on Lithuania winning the Baltic poll. Let’s hope she can actually make the final.
