Czech Republic We Are Domi Lights Off Eurovision 2022 rehearsal
Photo: EBU / NATHAN REINDS

The seventh day of Eurovision 2022 rehearsals is over. Closing off the day of second rehearsals for semi-final two was Czech Republic’s We Are Domi. How did the show off “Lights Off” on stage? Let’s find out…

Czech Republic’s We Are Domi “Lights Off” — Eurovision 2022 second rehearsal

Padraig: Earlier we saw Cyprus take inspiration from Botticelli. And now the Czech Republic also looks to the works of the great Italian Renaissance artists as they feature Michelangelo’s David throughout their performance. The iconic statue typically resides in Florence, but it lit up the stage in Turin. And despite the best efforts of the broken-down kinetic sun to block most of the LED, we can confirm that we get glimpses of the statue in full, including his manhood. But David isn’t there for us to admire. He quickly gets blown to smithereens… over and over. He returns again later, with his bright pink face looming up from the LED floor. Aside from the art, the Czech’s adopt a rave vibe. There is lots of electronic equipment on show and strobe lights galore. The big moment comes midway when all the lights are turned off as Dominika sings “turn the lights off”. It’s brief but effective.

Vocals suck. Excellent staging and cool dance song. Also the best band name: “We are Domi”. Sure qualifier.

Romania, Estonia, Czechia, are my picks here, honourable mentions, Vladana and her dress, Sheldon and his big stairs. I’m a big fan of River but not a fan at all of these effects added so I’m kind of disappointed.
However tomorrow we will know dirinf the press conferences in which half will perform Malik, Alvan & Ahez, Sam and Chanel in the GF, it’s exciting. I think there are 2 spots in the 1st half and 2 in the 2nd half to take. Fingers crossed for France and Uk to take the 2nd half spots.

Let’s clarify something first: Michelangelo’s David is safe in Florence and was most certainly not “blown up” by Domi. Not literally, anyhow. 🙂
What the statue of David has to do with “Lights Off” is anyone’s guess. Maybe Dominika misses the statue?

They just apparently wanted to blow something. And this statue was probably selected because Italy is the host country…

The UK has plenty of offensive statues of figures from our awful history that we would happily see blown up, for real. David just doesn’t deserve it.

This is impressive. The song is very middle of the road for me but I was vibe-ing with it in this 40 second clip. Great job!

They are the best indeed. Prague would be a great host city. Sadly, the majority of the fandom doesn’t seem to agree with us…

The fandom rarely knows best when it comes to predicting the winner. I’m rooting for Prague 2023 as well 😉

Brilliant. I don’t care if she doesn’t sing it perfectly, she’s improved massively, the song is great and the staging looks amazing. Such a wonderful closing act for this semi and a deserving qualifier imo

Like Austria good song, but weak voice of lead female singer. Broj countries will be in TOP 10 in final with better singer.

Poor vocals . Anyhow are we still looking at a Ukraine win ? I hope not . Surely only Sweden , possibly Spain could do it now . Maybe Greece at a push !
If Ukraine win I wonder who will host next year ? Maybe the runner up ?

WOWWW! I’ve always loved lights off, but seeing the staging, it looks absolutely epic. Love the black and white theme with the ancient statues on the screen. And how the lights all turned off with the cue of the lyrics, so cool.

Yess I’m much more confident in them now! Vocals are better (still not perfect but alas) and the lighting is phenomenal! I think they’ll be reaching the final after all.

Almost the same prediction. But for me it´s Finland instead of Azerbaijan and I see San Marino as a surprise Q. Malta is also still in the race, the juries could love it.

Perfect, PERFECT incorporation of the lights (they actualoy turned off at the verse <3) and their frenzy at the instrumental part is incredible! Vocals aren't bad either, YES, CZECH REPUBLIC, THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT!

I absolutely love how the lights ACTUALLY turned off when she sang “So turn the lights off”. Beautiful use of effects and lighting. This song now has a decent chance of qualifying (plus the fact her vocals sound good now). You go Czech republic!

I like what they’ve done with the lighting effects but the content of the LED is not what I would’ve gone for. Typically, I’d say this wouldn’t get a lot of televote support and would do better with juries…but those vocals are still not jury-friendly.
For me, I can see it finishing in about 12th place. But it’s close enough that with a bit of luck/improvement, it could sneak in.

My favourite this year, cool, modern, without sounding too generic. Hope they bring it on stage and get a top 10 result.

Second half of second semi is so boring with mediocre songs from Montenegro, Ireland, Macedonia, Romania… Czechia and Sweden will shine, sure qualifiers.

Lights Off is that type of song that the casual viewer might find very catchy and votes for it and it eventually ends up collecting the most televoting votes. Perhaps not televoting winner, but I think Czech Republic will do much better in televoting than fans expect.

That’s what I think as well. I recall fans predicting Annabelle or Giudy winning at the NF and Domi ended up being the winner, so I think they’re on for a surprise 🙂
