Juice your mangoes and be sure to stretch: Spain’s Chanel is our readers’ favourite to win the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.

Last week, after all 40 Eurovision 2022 acts completed their second rehearsals, we asked our readers to vote for their favourites. Over the six days we recorded a total of 24,472 votes.

Spain’s Chanel wins our Eurovision 2022 poll

The Spanish songstress earned 3,282 votes — or around 13.4% of all votes cast. She danced her way to the top with slick choreography that embodies empowerment and self-belief. She knows her powers and sings that she is always ready “to break hips, break hearts” and lets you know that her “boom boom” can get him going “zoom zoom” for her “yummy.” Don’t believe her? Then watch her move and “take a video – watch it slo mo, mo, mo…”

In second place we have the United Kingdom’s Sam Ryder, who earned 2,720 votes — or 11% of all those cast. The Essex-based star has turned the tide of negativity against Eurovision in his country. Standing in a three-piece structure that resembles a launch pad, he pays homage to Freddie Mercury, Elton John and David Bowie, while working his unrivalled falsetto and some very long golden locks. This song is all about appreciating what you already have. Why shoot yourself into space when everything important to you is already at home?

Rounding out our Top 3 is Sweden’s Cornelia Jakobs with her pop-folk ballad “Hold Me Closer”.

She pleads with her beloved to hold her one last time before they split — a conscious but painful uncoupling that leaves our girl contemplating what it means to find the right one at the wrong time.

At the climax of her song everything pops off — expect smoke, lasers and a supercharged Cornelia letting those emotions flow.

Norway made me emotional after a 5 month journey of me connecting to this song and act. Man they could not be anymore first for me this year! BTW I got the feeling TIX is in the DJ suit tonight.
Armenia has my 2nd fav stage in ESC history. Australia 2019 has my 1st.

We very nearly had an issue in the UK transmission today on the BBC, as the FA Cup Final overran. But I think it’s fine now. The penalties are over and the medals and cup are being handed out right now. Close call!

It’s a pity Ireland aren’t in the final. Both swedish and Polish commentators made negative comments about Ireland. Is there any rules in relation to that? Seems unfair

That may be true but Poland haven’t exactly covered themselves in glory since they joined ESC 28 years ago, their record is pretty poor and it will be a very long time before they have 7 wins under their belts.

It is… for a Wiwibloggs comment on a description in a You Tube video. National broadcasters on the night on the voting should be a bit more careful not to influence the voters. Sure, us fans can’t be influenced by a random comment, but perhaps some casual viewers can. *Maybe* it could be tolerated more if their country was in the other semi, but not if their voters are about to cast their votes.

Is there any rules in relation to that?” There should be. I know that Terry Wogan (rest his soul) was sadly known for making inappropriate comments on songs and performances, but I thought that was a part of the past, and that we moved on to more neutral observations by national broadcasters.

If televotes are watching I think it’s unfair for the commentators to be negative about an act in that way. It will impact the voting

Okay, I just listened to ”Shallow” and it’s basically the same situation as with ”Guilty Pleasure” and ”Willow”, and 95% of plagiarism accusations. People have no idea what a plagiarism is. Just because two songs have vaguely *similar* melodies and / or sing about the same topic doesn’t make one of them a copy. There are literally millions of songs, and it’s virtually impossible to avoid some of them being similar. That’s how it is. There’s a rule of number of exactly the same chords applied to determin plagiarism, and neither Guilty Pleasure or Hold Me Closer are it. In… Read more »

The bookies is the only place where ukraine is number one. Says a lot and yet this is gonna be the undeserved winner. Ridiculous. Let’s hand them the world cup too while we’re at it. The worst winner in eurovisiom history, if they do “win” tonight. A fake win won’t make them win the war just make karma slap them bc there’s balance in the universe so good luck with that.

Okay, let’s agree this has already been one of the weakest years ever.
Horrible stage, boring hosts, meh songs. Italy did a very poor job organizing it, i never saw that coming. It will an absolute horrible experience if Ukraine wins. Come on, it’s far from the best song, it’s maybe in the bottom 5 songs this year. If it wins, it will be a deserved winner for this weak year…

2 – Italy (12,3%)
3 – France (7,19%)
4 – Lithuania (7,16%)
5 – Switzerland (6,75%)
6 – Ukraine (6,00%)
7 – Serbia (5,40%)
8 – Finland (4,71%)
9 – Cyprus (4,17%)

Last poll winner finished 7th, thanks to 3rd position of juries, out of top10 of televote.

People seem to be forgetting about France and that makes me sad, because I love the song and want to see it do well. I hope it surprises. I hope Ukraine doesn’t win. Politics aside, it just isn’t a song worthy of a win. Sweden, Spain and most of the other favourites are all better songs. I personally don’t find the UK’s song anything special but I hope they get a good result and are finally able to start getting rid of its negative reputation in the country.
