I have got slightly obsessed with Boris Strok recently and you will all realise the error in your way one day.

LET3 is the better one of the typically Eurovision quirky entries. Harmonica Disonance is not bad, to me it feels a little too calculating and I can’t help but feel like I’m watching a Croatia tourist board video when it is on.

What happened with the votes? Barbara has 30 votes less than yesterday…

I think on Croatian language Nevera or Putem Snova,
I like Free Falling but unwanted Croatia to go with Croatian music.
I see the potential to of Mama, but it’s not my type of song I would listen to and I would dismiss it

you don’t have enough votes here, for example, Barbara Munjas had a little over 100 votes today around 2:00 p.m. and now she has 79??? What is happening???

I’m obviously rooting for whichever song will send Croatia to the Eurovision grand final. Based on what I’ve read so far, Harmonija Dissonance seems to be the most popular option.

Nevera with Lei Lei is a huge favorite for me. Let3 will probably have a crazy performance and they will receive a lot of televoting points but I hope Harmonia will have interesting performance and I think they could be a big surprise. Fingers crossed

All songs are mediocre bad, and no reason to deny it or to hype ourselves. Croatian music scene is either in big crisis, or Dora’s team needs to be put in check because I have hard time believing that out of almost 200 submitted entries for this year, these 18 were the best ones?! I just can’t phantom that. I guess out of what we have I’d like to see either Nevera or Free Fallin’ at Eurovision. But neither sounds mind-blowing qualification material so my enthusiasm is buried low.

Nevera by far the best, Damir is a big disappointment this time.

Another one of my favourites is the Mama song

This is exactly what I was talking about, it was already very clear to me that Barbara would be easily dismissed by a large crowd of extremely boring and “basic” people but Putem Snova would actually be the most interesting Croatian entry in a long time. Just like you ignored Marko Bosnjak last year too, you will probably continue making these uninspired choices that will put you on the receiving end of an NQ once again.

For me, usually it’s not either. However, my country hasn’t qualified since 2017, and voices which advocate for giving up the contest are loud every year. I don’t want us to NQ another time *because* I don’t want for HRT to pull out of the contest. And so far, I don’t have a clear favorite either. That’s why I’m looking at this from multiple angles.

I can understand that, but do you think that the ethno pop with the grafted on beat is a surefire qualifier? I honestly doubt it.
Nina Kraljic would have qualified 100%, and so would Marko Bosnjak. This year, it’s a bit of a pickle.

I agree: Nina and Marko would have both qualified. The issue is, I don’t think that any one of these songs is a ”surefire qualifier”. And there’s still a difference between ”it’s a toss”, and ”no chance”. Judging by how most people are responding, I’d say that something like Nevera or Let 3 is a toss, while something like, say Distance or I Still Live would likely hardly get out of the bottom 3 in the semi. Not sure where I’d put Barbara on that scale. It has a certain appeal for indie fans, but I’m afraid it would need… Read more »

I don’t know, Colin, but I think it’s Croatia’s best shot this year. The last two years they had better options – and also options that would have made qualification easier, if that’s the thing we’re going for.

At this stage I gave up on Croatia. Country that in 1990s was what Ukraine/Italy/Sweden are today has become one of the worst countries at ESC

Barbara, Hana, Dana, Maja, Yogi…there are some good songs here.
I just hope they don’t do the lazy thing and pick Nevera, which is just an average ethno song that fans overrate.

So far, it seems like it’s between Let 3, Nevera, and Damir. Other 15 songs would have to bring an out of this world staging to win, according to rumors. Not impossible, but I’m talking about a Gustaph level of surprise.

It’s a marmite entry, for sure. But in way, I can see it being some people’s first, and other people’s last, which is usually a good thing for Eurovision. From a purely competitive standpoint. Nonetheless, I’d expect a lot of hardcore Eurofans to have it last or close to last on their top lists before Eurovision.

I hope that we finally manage to get a decent score this time around, and by that, I mean, at least to qualify. In Croatia, three songs are getting the biggest buzz (Damir, Let 3, Harmonija Disonance). While the foreign voters are pushing for Nevera, and feel like our juries will go for Damir, it’s Let 3 that are frontrunners at this point. There’s a belief that we have to take a risk and throw everything at the kitchen sink. We played it safe for too long, and it didn’t pay off. Albina was unlucky, but Mia would have qualified… Read more »

As a complete outsider, the thought of that Let 3 song being a serious contender is wild.

Colin

If I were an outsider, I’d probably think the same. There are many factors: Them being very famous, their song being very bluntly anti-imperialism and anti-war, with explicit lyrics, and Croatians being fed-up with sending safe songs and NQ-ing with them. I’d say that Nevera is a safer choice to qualify *IF* there are no other similar ethno-pop songs in the same semi. Let 3 is a candidate to finish in top 15 thanks to televoters (juries will bury it in the finals), or to completely crash out in the semi, maybe even finish last.

You pretty much summed up what my friends told me about why they love Let 3’s entry. And I feel like living in the area now I’m getting a lot more tolerant to that kind of entry (still needed a translation for the lyrics though, croatian is hard to learn). Some of them like to jokingly say that sending an anti-Putin entry is a guaranteed 0 points from Serbia (but we know it’s not gonna happen).

Perfect timing, cause I just finished listening to all the songs for this selection. While I do like a few (8 overall that I added to my national final playlist), I agree that Nevera is probably the best chance Croatia has for eurovision, but whether it actually can bring Croatia back to the final for the first time since 2017 is up in the air. I wouldn’t put it past Croatia to let Damir Kedžo win again to to give him a second chance at Eurovision, because he never got to go on his first victory due to the 2020… Read more »

My favorite is Barbara Munjas but maybe that one is just a bit too out-there for the Croatian voters… Hope it’s not Damir at least, his song really is an annoying mess.

It doesn’t really seem to matter much as Croatia just selects the singer over the song. We’ve seen that every time since 2019. No wonder they have such difficulties in qualifying if their songs are either super cheesy or as bland as a plate of nothing but white rice

Harmonija Disonance – Lei Lei is a clear favorite for me and I voted for them in this poll. They will be a clear winner of the poll. Not sure if they will win Dora as Croatia usually decides to send other options besides clear winners and song which would have made a better impact in ESC. This has been a case since early 2000 all until now. Why am I writing this? Because I am scared Croatia will not send Lei Lei to ESC. I am also scared that Croatia is being slept on by the fandom in ESC.… Read more »

Same case with Sweden and mediocre Pop songs. If “Eat your salad”, “Halo”, “I am what I am”, “That’s rich” from 2022 and “Technicolour”, “TICK-TOCK”, from 2021 would have qualified if they were songs sent by Sweden. I hate the fact that we have countries that we automatically consider contenders no matter how strong the song is. Tick tock is a mediocre song sent by Croatia but it was the nest song they sent in years!!!! If Albina was representing Sweden she would have been in TOP 10 in the final. Trust me!

The thing is, Sweden would never send any of these songs, but if they did, there’s no way they’d qualify. People are overestimating Swedens “automatic qualification” because of their track record. Somehow they miss on the fact that each year they have more than 2000 songs to choose from, because Melodifestivalen attracts many, many more artists and songwriters than other national selections.

And before you call me a Swedish simp, no, I don’t even like most of their entries, though at the same time I can recognise their quality and musical professionalism.

I agree with you and to be honest I kinda look forward to MF every year the most because I myself expect Sweden to send something amazing. But so many other countries have failed to qualify with amazing songs and Sweden has qualified with both amazing and bad songs! I look forward to a day when Sweden will send a goodish/OK-ish song and fail to qualify. Voices was a perfect example of a song that would have failed to qualify if it was sent by any other country. Just imagine if Lithuania, Latvia, Montenegro, Macedonia, San Marino or even Croatia… Read more »

Yes. Tusse comfortably qualified because he was heavily pushed by the juries. If he was representing a country with lower “reputation” he would be staying in the semis.

But he didn’t really do that well by Sweden standards. He got sixth with the jury and 10th with the televote for an overall seventh position in semifinal one, which is the first time Sweden didn’t make the top four within the qualifiers and he didn’t make the top ten of either jury or Tele vote in the final. In fact, he placed lower in the JURY (17th) which is usually Sweden’s strength than the televote (11th). It all evens out to a 14th position which marks Sweden’s first time finishing on the right side of the board since 2013,… Read more »

Nevera is obviously their only realistic chance to qualify, even though I can’t guarantee even that. Quite weak year compared to other editions. I hope Damir does not win for his good, he better comes back next year with something decent like Divlji Vjetre than to end his ESC dream with 15th place in the semi.
