Marco Mengoni Sanremo 2023

We’re halfway through the biggest week in Italian music, as the 73rd annual Sanremo Music Festival rolls on.

On Thursday all 28 artists performed their songs on Night 3. Coming into tonight, Marco Mengoni topped the ranking, with Colapesce & Dimartino and Madame rounding out the top three.

But the public cast their votes this time around and there’s change near the top. We say near because Marco Mengoni remains on top. But Ultimo and Mr. Rain have managed to push up behind him.

Poople forgot about Diodato and Maneskin been 3 and 7/8 in the ranks and then won….

Especially this year we will have top 5 in the Superfinal

Only one surprise in those results, Mr. Rain being third. When the participants were announced I figured Marco and Ultimo were locks for the superfinal, with the third spot up for grabs.Their fanbases are just so much bigger than the rest.

It’s a top five this year though!
I don’t know how that’s going to change things…but probably makes it easier for the act that’s 1st place throughout to seal the deal.

since I was a child I have heard that the real winner of Sanremo is whoever sells the most records, and in fact it has always been like this, some winners no one remembers them…! and the same will be this year. I see that Lazza has twice as many streams as Mengoni on Spotify…. will that be a sign??

Italy sent Mahmood, Maneskin AND Diodato recently. How much more proof do you need that Italy are not locked into one genre and WILL choose the best song to win SanRemo, regardless? Show some faith! They haven’t been letting us down exactly.

Just reading the comments here. It’s a bit alarming to see people slate Marco’s song which is above and beyond anything entered so far for Eurovision this year. Then, they go on to completely overreact to the Czech republic song like it’s some sort of revelation in music. There are at least 6 songs in Sanremo this year that trample the entire list of songs we have heard from other countries both selected and in National Finals. So can we please stop pretending to give hate to Sanremo when we all know it’s a festival of high calibre? Please? Thanks!

I agree. Mengoni’s song is nice but that isn’t good for Eurovision because no one would understand the song and it would not impressed both the juries and the public.

I understand that Sanremo is a festival of high calibre 🙂 But I began to get the impression that the press and juries at Sanremo always prefer ballad songs as safe choices; rather than giving chance for more original songs like Madame’s song.

There are many good ballad songs sent by Italy a
but Mengoni’s songs will not impressed both the audience and the juries at Eurovision. I know Sanremo is more important than Eurovision for Italians but many fans also have higher expectations from Italy.

First of all, in the past 12 years, Italy sent ballads only two times (I’m not considering ballads Grande Amore and No Degrees of Separation, different genres, while Fai Rumore didn’t compete) before this. And it’s not even said that will be the song for the entry. Press and Juries don’t use to do any safe choice, since Sanremo is not meant to be a National Final for ESC. Maybe one could say Italy make safe choices, but I don’t think it will be fair, because the whole Sanremo is an Italy’s expression, not only the winner. Sanremo tries to… Read more »

Whilst I do love a good classic Italian ballad, they’ve been done to death at Eurovision. Italy has recently taken risks and left their Italian ballad phase behind, I hope they don’t go back with Marco Mengoni.

Madame & Elodie (or Rosa Chemical) are my top picks. But as we all know, Italy favors men over women, unfortunately, so it’ll be near to impossible for them to beat Marco.

I doubt either makes the final. It’s probably going to be an all male final three.

It seems that Italians would prefer boring ballads ? Mengoni’s and Ultimo’s songs are typical, nothing special songs. I don’t even see any difference between Mengoni’s 2013 song and this year song. Italy cant get high public votes if they send Marco Mengoni to Eurovision.

We will be fair here and say, if Marco Mengoni sends this song, it’ll be a top 5, contender. It’s an amazingly composed song. He sings the living daylights out of it. He’s very handsome, Italian always sounds great in music. So no matter if you are bored of ballads, they are still prevalent in music globally. I would pick Madame for Eurovision as I love that song, but if she doesn’t get the gig, Marco will give Italy a great result nonetheless.

It really isn’t an average ballad. I just think you don’t like ballads. But it’s very contrary that Eurovision fans have negative opinions on an Italian selection that is above and beyond what is entered in Eurovision, then they literally have orgasms over something like this year’s Czech song which is a complete mess sonically.

I just don’t get Marco Mengoni. It just doesn’t hit me, I guess. I also think that Ultimo’s voice gets very flat in the more emotional part of the song, so nah. Not for me, but it’ll be probably one of them.
Lazza is still my number one, but I was surprised by Elodie, it’s low-key a bop. And Mr. Rain really really got me hard this time. I don’t like children’s choirs, but damn, the second time around it hits hard.

Marco would be a really good winner but I really want to see Madame, Colapesce/Dimartino or Elodie win. I would also be fine with Lazza. Ultimo has a voice I really like but the song is not as good as I tuoi particolari for me. Tananai has a solid yet not impressive song. All in all I at least like all frontrunners so that’s good but I still hope Madame will be able to win this.
Anyone knows who has said yes to Eurovision should they win?

Anyway, due to the false Covid 19 green pass certification scandal involving Madame (she is under investigatio from one month on it) I find very complicate she will be able to top the televote. Italians who were duly vaccined (3 or 4 times) and complied to all the rules and laws, will find her behaviour extremely irritating and probably choose someone else.

Even if she does, with demoscopic + public votes being 67% in the superfinal I wouldn’t see her having a chance sadly… the typical Sanremo viewer is over 50 and prefers the sappy staff. Look at 2019, Mahmood only won because the jury was made up of experts + press and it weighted 50%. The demoscopic “jury” goes for the safe picks even more than the public vote. With the current system he wouldn’t have even been top 10 and wouldn’t have gained the mainstream recognition he currently has

Ultimo and specially Mr Rain had to really go big with televote to make those jumps. Like 10% in the worst scenario. Also both doing that means Mengoni probably didn’t get more than 15%. Had to be close. But maybe all 3 were so strong and far ahead idk. Italian public and specially demoscopic like their ballads usually. Kudos to Lazza also for going up in this scenario.
