Earlier this year, the team at France Télévisions announced that Canadian-born singer La Zarra would be singing for France at Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool. After a month of waiting, we’re now only a few days away from being able to hear her song – set to titled “Évidemment”.

“Évidemment” to be released on Sunday 19 February

Speculation has been building about La Zarra’s Eurovision entry. Then on Wednesday, the star revealed the song’s artwork. It showcases the singer wearing a classic French-style beret and blazer with the title “Évidemment” written on top. The song title translates to “Evidently” or “Obviously”.

We only have to wait a little longer before we can finally hear it. The song is set to be revealed on Sunday 19 February from 20:30 CET. The premiere takes place on TV channel France 2 as part of the programme 20h30 le dimanche.

According to some insiders and based on the musical style of the singer, there is speculation that the track will feature different musical styles. It is suggested that it may open on classical French tones before moving into pop and modern music.

Who is La Zarra?

France has decided to put their Eurovision national selection show on ice for 2023 after the country’s Head of Delegation, Alexandra Redde-Amiel, fell hard for La Zarra’s pitch:

“Mysterious, inspiring, charismatic, La Zarra is a woman and a modern artist with a so chic French signature! A voice that transports us through time by making us travel to different eras … From Barbara through Brel or Dalida to Marylin Monroe, La Zarra is an iconic artist who will carry the colors of France in Liverpool in May 2023 during the largest song contest in the world.”

La Zarra is a singer who was born in Canada to a family of Moroccan origin. During her childhood, she dreamed of French fashion and songs while discovering the oriental voices her Moroccan family listened to. France Télévisions noted:

“She writes very early, prelude to her songs of today, which speak about her – sharp confessions, categorical feelings, she sings with her warm and distinguished voice her desires, her hopes but also her sufferings and her disillusions with an unparalleled accuracy…”

The singer has always been self-taught. Indeed, during her childhood, she spent hours in front of videos of Mylène Farmer and Céline Dion, dreaming of a similar life as an artist. Today it is for France that her heart beats and where she finds her inspiration.

La Zarra is not at all unknown to the French public. She already achieved massive success there last year with her song “Tu t’en iras”, which has accumulated more than 19 million views on YouTube.

What do you expect from La Zarra’s “Évidemment”? Will you obviously listen to it? Let us know down below!

I feel like she is going to be the French version of LOREEN and following the footsteps of Celine Dion because she is half Moroccan and Quebecois.

Somehow I have high expectations for France.
The title reminds me a beautiful song by France Gall – Évidemment 🙂

I think this is the first confirmed song this year, where I’m instantly going “YES!” For now, this is my favorite. Well done France.?

Please, be a feminist song. The more (good) feminist songs there are, the less points Queen of Kings will get.

Because Queen of Kings isn’t feminist?

Because it would split the vote.

Not everyone in Europe understands French, so it doesn’t matter if La Zarra has a feminist song or not. She will get votes based on other things for non-French speakers.

Non-French speakers, which is a majority percentage of ESC viewers, will vote based on overall production, stage presence, live vocals, & the song, they won’t vote based on the lyrics of a language they don’t understand.

Sorry, but this is rubbish. Non-French speaker also liked “Voila” two years ago.

I’m not sure that those who don’t speak French don’t examine the lyrics anyway. I still remember the people who said that Amir was a big polluter because he said he had “jeté tellement de bouteilles à la mer” (when it was just a figure of speech to say that he had a lot of trouble on his way ?)… And other crazy people who said that Amandine Bourgeois was satanist because “je vais te faire l’enfer”???? We use a lot of images in French, and it’s not always understood in a good way.

Let’s just wait until we’ve heard Noa’s song, right? Then we will know if the hype is well founded.

Watch Noa Kirel release her entry and it’s a predictable radio song fabricated by the Swedish… imagine the crying stans.

She is from Canada and is she able to represent France ? I’m asking because there is a singer from Belgium who participated France’s The Voice , i’m rooting for her to represent France one day but i am not sure if it’s possible.

There is no restriction about nationality in the Eurovision rules (the most famous example being Celine Dion winning for Switzerland in 1988).

Concerning France, they had already non-French citizens representing France in ESC in the past (for example, Natacha St-Pier (from Canada) in 2001 or Jonatan Cerrada (from Belgium) in 2004).

The best example is still a singer of Portuguese origin, born in the Congo, who arrived in France at the age of six, and who represented us when she was 19.
And her name will remain engraved in the legend of the competition: Marie Myriam.

Oh my god the hype is real. Tu t’en iras has been growing on me for the last month or so, and, if La Zarra brings anything on that level, then France will be a serious contender for me (perhaps not for the win at Eurovision but definitely a contender in my 2023 ranking).

Oh, I wanna root for her so badly… If the entry is going to be Tu t’en iras-level, then France will be an easy top 5 in my ranking this year.

Whats with the complete exaggeration? Sure, some favourites didnt win selections but dont forget others did and some winners of selections garnered some attention after their performances.

Countries that selected songs that have been hyped in some fashion/people wanting it to win the selection.

Spain
Norway
Denmark
Czech Republic
Latvia
Estonia
Malta
And albania (even if people arent a fan now, there were supporters wanting her to win the entire week it took place)

So all in all, yes we’ve lost some good entries but we also have others that people liked a lot.
