Kalush Orchestra at SXSW

South by Southwest is not just a music festival. It is an annual event that includes a number of music, film and media festivals and conferences, and brings together more than 2,000 of the world’s most exciting artists to perform.

Rapper Oleh Psiuk, founder and leader of Kalush Orchestra says: “We can’t wait for this incredible event. For us, this is our first festival in America, so we really want to give a memorable performance and represent Ukraine with dignity. Looking at the number of performers and the countries that will be represented at the festival, this is once again a huge opportunity for people around the world to pay attention to Ukrainian music.”

Kalush Tour 2022

Kalush hope this new tour of the United States will be as successful as last year. During their North American concert tour in 2022, the band managed to collect 60 million hryvnias (1.6 million dollars) to help Ukraine.

Last year, the Eurovision winners were initially scheduled to only perform shows in seven cities in North America. However, the tickets sold out instantly and additional dates were organised in Toronto and New York. In total, they played 18 concerts in just three weeks.

Meeting Arnie

One of the landmark events for the group during last year’s tour was meeting the Hollywood actor and politician Arnold Schwarzenegger. Kalush and the former bodybuilder talked about the situation in Ukraine and they thanked him for his support. An even bigger surprise for music fans was the appearance of ‘Iron Arnie’ in the band’s recent music video for the song “Shchedryi Vechir”, ‘Generous Evening’ in English. Arnold spoke in Ukrainian.

Cleveland is a bit too far for me to travel, but it’s nice to see them play there. I know they have a big Ukrainian community.

Why don’t you go to Ukraine to fight? They’re helping Ukraine the best way they can. After all, war costs money.
