Joker Out will sing “Carpe Diem” for Slovenia at Eurovision 2023.
Joker Out — the most streamed band in Slovenia in 2022 — were internally selected to go to Eurovision after they expressed their interest for this music competition. Moving away from the usual EMA national final format, Slovenia is hoping the boyish rockers will break the country’s two year non-qualification streak. Joker Out will perform “Carpe Diem” in semi-final two in Liverpool this May.

Slovenia in Eurovision 2023: Joker Out with “Carpe Diem”
Joker Out was born in 2016 with Bojan Cvjetićanin on vocals and Jan Peteh and Kris Guštin on guitars. Drummer Jure Maček joined the lineup in 2021, and bassist Nace Jordan joined in 2022 — establishing the Joker Out we know and love today. The five-piece have known each other since they were children. Bojan, Kris, Jan, Nace and Jure went to the same primary school, and recorded the school’s anthem together as part of the school band. Now, years later, they are still making music together.
Taking a note from Austin Powers, Joker Out describe their sounds as “shagadelic rock ‘n’ roll” — hitting a sweet spot between modern rock and retro Brit-pop. They released their first album Umazane misli in 2021 to massive success, subsequently winning two consecutive Artist of the Year honours at Slovenia’s Zlata piščal awards.
What do the “Carpe Diem” lyrics mean?
The song title comes from a Latin phrase meaning “seize the day”. The track is about making the best of the present day and worrying less about the future. It’s a way of life that transcends languages and borders, just as the Slovene lyrics say: “We’ll be dancing all night long, we’ll love each other and play, as if there was no tomorrow”.
Joker Out encourage their fans to focus on living life to the fullest, having a positive mindset and to make love, not war. They express their message of peace with the lyrics: “The game of hatred is your thing, thank you, don’t count on us”.
Joker Out told wiwibloggs: “The song tells you that you can look at life from two different perspectives at any given moment.”
They added: “It doesn’t take much to look on the bright perspective. So just make the best out of every day, think positive, share love, not war”.

Sebi is an ESC all-timer for me and totally deserved to finish top 5 over the artificial products from Switzerland and Russia, but because it was a subtle song from a country with no voting power it only came top 15 in the end…
I agree with their results more when it comes to Torino 2022 and the current season, but I mostly judge it on a case-by-case basis. Rotterdam 2021 I did prefer the televote for the most part, as an example.
Among my top 5 so far and my current favorites in the SF that I can actually vote in, but last year I wouldn’t have even considered them for my overall top 10… Unpopular opinion probably, but I also prefer LPS’ Disko as a song because it sounds less “predictable” to me. Joker Out should easily qualify tho.

They are nice, they are good looking, they sing great as well…but they will stay in semies.
They will 100% not stay in semis. Also a very high possibility of a top10 result. Their live performance is superb.
