On Friday, the second chance show of Una Voce per San Marino 2023 took place. 16 artists from the previous four semi-finals were given another shot at fighting for the last four spots in Saturday’s grand final.

At the end of the show, fan-favourite and Albania’s Eurovision 2022 star Ronela Hajati was given one of the tickets to the grand final in Teatro Nuovo. The other three final tickets were given to Roy Paci, Mate and Edoardo Brogi.

They now join 18 other acts in the grand final of Una Voce per San Marino 2023 — the 16 acts who qualified from the semi-finals, plus Sammarinese acts Kida and Simone De Biagi, who were given a direct pass to the grand final for being the only local artists in the selection this year. That makes a 22-act grand final.

The grand final will take place at San Marino’s Teatro Nuovo in Dogana. The winner will be decided by a five person-jury, chaired by Italy’s two-time Eurovision star Al Bano. The winning act will represent San Marino in Liverpool at Eurovision 2023. We’ll be guided through the show by hosts Senhit and Jonathan, with the evening starting at 21:00 CET. You can watch via SMRTV’s livestream by clicking here.

Second chance show acts qualified for the final

Ronela Hajati – “SALVAJE”

The fan-favourite Albanian Eurovision star Ronela Hajati began performing in various singing and dancing competitions as a child before pursuing a career in music. She is noted for her versatility in music, style and interpretation. After winning the 60th edition of Festivali i Këngës in 2021 with the song “Sekret“, she was chosen as Albania’s representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.

Ronela performed Sekret” in the first semi-final of Eurovision 2022 in Turin but failed to qualify for the final despite being a favourite, finishing in 12th place. After one year, she is now trying again to  reach Eurovision with the song “SALVAJE” – but this time for San Marino.

Roy Paci – “Tromba”

Roy Paci is an Italian trumpeter, singer, composer and arranger. Born in Sicily, Paci started playing the piano as a young child and picked up the trumpet at age 10. By 13, he was playing with traditional Sicilian jazz and performing in some of Italy’s most famous clubs.

In 2018, Paci participated at Sanremo in collaboration with Diodato, entering the song “Adesso” and finishing eigth overall.

Mate – “Prisma”

Mate (Maria Teresa Amato) is from Naples. When she was 13, she started to study opera singing. However, she turned to jazz and blues two years later. She has participated in several singing competitions such as SanremoLab, X Factor and The Voice of Italy. She has also served as a jury member on All Together Now and toured with actor Maurizio Casagrande in the theatre.

Mate also participated in last year’s Una Voce per San Marino with the song “DNA“, finishing 17th in the final.

Edoardo Brogi – “Due Punti Sull’equatore”

Edoardo Brogi is a young singer-songwriter of Tuscan origin. He was born on 22 August 1996 and spent his childhood in the province of Florence. He approached music at a very young age and this passion grew with him. Through his guitar he began to write and compose pieces of his own.

Edoardo was elected in December 2019 as the first “Final Future Legend of Italian music”, thus participating by right in Channel 5’s Capodanno in Musica live from Bari on New Year’s Eve. Edoardo performed among the big names of Italian music, with his single “Senza di te”, a song that a long time after its publication is still very much listened to and appreciated.

what a shame it’s 100% jury (only 5 members)

The winner will be decided by a five person-jury, chaired by Italy’s two-time Eurovision star Al Bano.

Why is it difficult to do a demoscopic jury or implement televoting (with Italian numbers) or online voting via the Eurovision app? I won’t be watching.,

Im afraid that the televote will vote crazy for Ronela but I think Mayu, Le Deva, Kida and even Roi Pacy are better than her

If the juries are fair then queen Ronela will be the winner! Hopefully there will be no technical issues in the final like in the semi final during her performance. She will bring San Marino its best ever result for sure.

Ronela’s performance is the only one I actually checked out from the San Marino NF, obviously due to all these comments. It is a sight to behold, it is hilarious and it totally looks and sounds like a parody. If that was Ronela’s aim, then she has surely succeeded.

I have just seen multiple polls on youtube asking which one is your favourite, and Ronela is winning all of them with 50+%, so it is rightful to say Ronela is the fan favourite.

Sure, but that still means she is the fan favourite – the one largest portion of eurofans are rooting for.
I am glad I am not part of that portion, but some of you down in these comments seem to have a huge problem with Ronela being called a fan favourite.

Well, I can’t say I have seen the live shows. There were some very helpful recaps on Youtube. There were serious problems in those so called “Semifinals” because they looked more like auditions. Performers didn’t use earpiece and sometimes the music was too loud. You might say a good singer can do their job under any circumstances. About Ronela, she did a great job during her National Selection back in 2021. Unfortunately the revamp and her staging played against her. We will see tomorrow what happens.

About “Salvaje” the song is not bad but falls in too many sterotypes, to the point that it might sound “cool” but too me is just a series of random Spanish phrases that no make much sense together. But as I said. Let’s see what happens in tomorrow’s grand final watching the songs on a big stange.

Haven’t heard of the SM acts besides E65 & Ronela. Ya’ll is there anything good in this NF? Should I expect a good entry from SM this year?

There are some nice songs that would probably sound much better in studio or on Eurovision stage. San Marino is struggling with getting the sound right on this stage, they don’t have earpieces for the singers, so many of them are off.
Eiffel 65 is actually one of the worst entries in the final, in my opinion.

So much hate… If you don’t like the song, it’s totally understandable but please don’t leave mean comments… Ronela has seen enough of this last year. I’m so happy for Ronela’s qualification ? sending all my support for tomorrow’s final !

Ohhhh. Poor girl… CRITICISM IS NOT HATE, bro. She sucked in Turin, that’s a fact. People have told her that the “Sekret” revamp is bad, her reaction “it’s my song i can do whatever i want with it.” Okay? Vote for yourself then. She got offered a help with her live performance, she rejected it and then was crying on twitter that everyone is trashing it. Oh and let’s not forget that the night before jury show she spent the night partying, no wonder her jury show performance was awful (and I know it was, cause I watched it right… Read more »

Because even if her song is garbage, she is being treated like a queen of Eurovision, while she is a terrible performer, egoistic and desperate asf.

Also, I don’t think she’s a terrible performer. Some people don’t just deem her “beautiful” enough for what she does. You need to look like Chanel. Others who don’t like her just reveal their femme-phobic nature by hating the “yaas queen” supporters. Sad.

Bro it has nothing to do with the way she looks. I myself am thicker with bigger thighs and hips, I love them, my husband loves them. That is absolutely not a problem. There is a difference between being sexy and being vulgar or a try hard sexy.
You are literally just finding pointless excuses instead of admitting, that maybe the fault is on her side not everyone else’s.

Jonas

Vulgar? Fault? Chanel was also a “try hard sexy”, and nobody minded. Plenty of others too. Either way, it’s not really a huge deal so overzealous hatred is undeserved.

For me personally it was her annoying attitude. Like she genuinely believed she did well in the semi and was annoyed at the juries for ranking her poorly even tho it was deserved.

Just came across as a petty and desperate person to me personally.

Really do not understand the hate for Ronela. Yes, I prefer her song from last year but I think she is a good performer (which I believe the FiK performance showed us) and I think you can have your views on the song without hating on an artist which is what your doing.

Cacao

I don’t understand. What do you expect ? The selection is 100% jury and this jury sent her to second chance so why do you make articles about her ?

Panna

Eurovision news outlets always outline the familiar names in selections and other events.
This article is not about Ronela, it is about the second chance qualifiers of UVPSM. They mention Ronela’s name as she is a past participant of Eurovision, a familiar name. They would do the same if one of your favorite Eurovision artists would participate in a selection. Would you be mad then as well?
