Following a week of semi-finals and a second chance round, the grand final of Una Voce per San Marino 2023 took place on Saturday.

A total of 22 acts made it to this last stage of the competition, including Eurovision 2022 star Ronela Hajati and Austarlia Decides alum Alfie Arcuri.

But the ultimate winner was Piqued Jacks with the song “Like An Animal”. The group will now represent San Marino at Eurovision 2023.

The true is there where exactly 379 auditions. In the finals 12 acts came from the auditions, the other 10 came from the choice of the organization. If they say 1000 applicants that can only be with all members of bands/ groups included. But actually one group or band is one applicant. And what’s not a surprise : the winner wasn’t someone who did audition but someone the organization chooses to go straight to the semi finals. So one good advice, if you don’t sing rock or if you are not Italian don’t participate!!!

This is actually quite good for my ears and the lead singer is a great performer. Finally something fresh and genuine sounding. Immediately straight to top 2 of all SM participations (which is not a great achievement with SM’s record)

It is a good, solid song, which I think will qualify. People moan too much about the lyrics… I have seen much worse in Eurovision.

I did not watch Una Voce per San Marino, but I find it hard very to believe that this would be the best in this lineup. This will be battling for last place in its semi in Liverpool.

I have just watched all the songs from the final. This show is so underated by the fandom. Such a shame. They did so much with such a small budget. Congrats to the winner! And Goodluck.

It does look like a up hill struggle to qualify to the final for San Marino with this band. First problem is you have bands from Slovenia and Australia who have a unique sound and I have to say come across interesting as bands compare to them. Personally the lead singer diction was hard to understand however it could be down to the broadcasting footage. However on the up side the band other Spotify songs sound well produced and music video on YouTube look incredible. So I don’t think we have heard the best version of this song. Right now… Read more »

I don’t know if Wiwibloggs would be interested in talking to the only Canadian to have auditioned in both years of UVPSM, but this selection was beyond rigged. Take the small artists for all they’re worth (about €150 each lol) and then have an industry jury select the Universal Records Italy act. It was transparently rigged from the start and I will not be participating again. I’ll be releasing my entry on April 30th to correspond with the anniversary of the movie that inspired it.

Same thoughts here. We said from the begin that the winner wouldn’t be coming out of someone who was in the list of the auditions and see, we where right. Then if you tell the organisation we ( all less or unknown artists) feels like used as sponsors they treat with a laywer. Only 6 of the 22 finalist came from abroad. The rest was Italian. And anybody would know now the winner has to be an Italian. That’s the taste of that 5 men Italian jury. The music doesn’t matter. And this song isn’t a choice to go for… Read more »

I’m glad to have another rock band this year. This is getting interesting for me. Ypu want more divas bops and I want more rock and alternative music. It isn’t a masterpiece, but it isn’t nearly as bad as you picture. I suppose that among those who criticize them harshly will be essentially those who are upset about Ronela not winning. Probably won’t qualify, it’s San Marino obviously, but it’s interesting to have another rock entry. The live vocals are very solvent and he moves well on stage. I don’t know what high school performances you’ve seen, but how lucky… Read more »

I actually watched the performance at the final night, and I can somewhat see where the ”not so bad” comments are coming from. The leading guy sang very well, and the instrumentation sounds at least competent. It wouldn’t be my 75th out of 104, but I can’t see it being higher than my 55th either. The lyrics are atrocious, and there’s nothing memorably bad about it. If they had sent Aristea with her ”bolla’, or Ilenya and her hilariously catchy culturally appropriative mess, or the guy with tiara trying to sound like he’s in an opera, but failing… they’d at… Read more »

San Marino I don’t get it, it’s a nice song, they are talented artists for sure, they perform well, nothing against them but the song in itself is not competitive enough for Eurovision, it doesn’t stand out enough. You did the longest selection process with a lot of acts , really a lot, there were certainly some good options competitive enough but you didn’t chose one of them….I don’t get it. Good luck to them, they seem very enjoyable.

Have San Marino ever picked the best option out of the stuff they had? Or even one of the best? No…They seem to pick an entry at random.

This is good. I haven’t really been following. I have just heard this track stand alone. It’s a great song in fact musically and sonically. This is what I call real music. The lead singer is charismatic on the stage. People complaining that it’s just another rock song. Eurovision isn’t exclusively only for POP songs. You could say it’s the Maneskin effect we are seeing. There are different variations of the rock genre and this is a perfect example of just one type. This type of song is perfect for a big stage like ESC stage. Well done San Marino.… Read more »

Idk if Måneskin is having an effect a couple years later, but it seems we’ve been getting an influx of bands this year and of countries trying to attempt something rock or “rock-like”. Problem is none of them have been nearly as good.

You know last year was a good one when even San Marino themselves had a decent enough song, this year they’re back to their usual extremely low level. That 2nd SF is also looking quite rough at this point.
