Last week saw the announcement of 22 year old twins Tural and Turan Bagmanlovar, or TuralTuranX, as this year’s Eurovision artstis from Azerbaijan.
Today their self-penned song “Tell Me More” was released, and we hear their love for singer-songwriter music in their style and lyrics.
The brothers are street performers from the small town of Zaqatala in the north-west of the country, and since they were short-listed as one of the five candidates to represent Azerbaijan, their popularity blew up on social media.

It sounds VERY Argentinian radio pop songs from the 2000s, which is not a good thing to me… where is the Azerbaijan of Always, Matahari, Miracle…? Even X My Heart is better than this!
Why compose such a beautiful, melodic song, if you are going to include basic grammar errors such as “I just want to know how do you feel about us” in its lyrics? Call me a grammar nazi, but I just can’t take the song as seriously.

The twins look…interesting, the song is actually different from the rest so I would not rule out depending on the live performance and how much Azerbaijan will rig televoting systems in small countries.

It’s a pleasant song, although I think it takes a bit too long to go somewhere. I do like, however, that it feels like “their” song, instead of some flawless yet soulless production song that’s bought for them. Will this qualify… I think it’s not without a chance but this is another one where the live performance will really be decisive.
Alright so here is my first prediction for this semi based on studio versions and overall reception: Definite Qualifiers: Sweden Finland Norway (apologies for this just being the nordics, the next category is also most likely qualifying). Well done, Azerbaijan! I would not expect such a song! It’s sweet, emotional, fresh. I find myself listening to that song so, yes, good choice I don’t know how this will perform and rank, but to be honest it’s a good song. It reminds me, however, of many other songs, at parts it’s very similar to Sixpence none the richer “Kiss me” (remember? 90s or 00s song, can’t remember?). But overall it’s a good entry. Anything that isn’t another female pop singer with backup dancers like what Blanka or Noa Kirel gets an approval in my book (the Eleni or Ruslana formula won’t always work). Kudos to these twins for bringing something different to the table.

I’m a little surpised some people call this entry “risky”. When did bland become risky?
It’s only “risky” because it’s completely composed within the country, not outsourced as Azerbaijan‘s eurovision entries usually are. If it qualifies, then it could encourage more homegrown composition, but if it fails, then it’s back to outsourcing. I wish the twin brothers luck, as I am actually a twin myself, but I can’t help but feel like they’re being set up to fail to demonstrate why Azerbaijan usually outsources songs.
I understand the idea of having songs be as domestic as possible but… they still need to be of a certain quality. This is clearly not competitive at all.
If the entry is only risky because AZB are the ones sending it, then it isn’t musically risky… which was my point.
Frankly, I’d rather have a good song with foreign help, than a mediocre local one.
Whew lord, they gonna need to buy all the sim cards.

Im sorry, but this is a song getting me to nowhere. I’m Armenian and you might think i hate it because of prejudices. But wait, the Armenian entry is equally bad this year. Miss our entries from 2006-2010. Wish we could go back to that era again. Overall, there’s no song which impresses me this year, apart from Sweden, France and maybe Ireland. The rest are meh.
Good for a drama or a film but not competitive enough for Eurovision, especially in a 100% semi.

There is no similar low-key, sweet song in the semi, I feel it is going to be televoted and qualify.
A nostalgic paean to the Beatles. As a child of the Sixties I really appreciate this. Definitely not a winner, but this may be a surprise qualifier in the same way Portugal was last year. At least Azerbaijan is trying something different so kudos to them. Plus being a twin myself I’m a great believer in twin power!

Forgot to mention that, if Latvia is to qualify, I don’t care about my numbers 9 and 10 if they were to be replaced, I’d gladly have Latvia in the Grand Final but I HAVE NO MORE SPACE BECAUSE THE QUALITY BALANCE BETWEEN THE TWO SEMI FINALS THIS YEAR IS OBNOXIOUS. 🙁
I’ve actually got a clear top 3 of Serbia, Portugal and Croatia, and then I guess I’d also place Finland and Czechia in my top 5, so not too dissimilar.
Myself I’d swap Latvia for Switzerland, and maybe sneak Azerbaijan or Norway in instead of Israel and the Netherlands, but my top 10 isn’t dissimilar to yours. And I also agree that the quality of this SF is terrific!

Welp I went into this with no idea what to expect and left… quite underwhelmed. This song gives me very heavy “Eurovision 2010 filler song sent by a country that didn’t want to win but at least try to make an appearance in the final” vibes. This is actually pretty nice and pleasant. Too bad they’re in the semi filled with entries I like and not in the one I’m indifferent to 2/3 of the entries.
The balance is quite off this year, now isn’t it. I actually like 13 entries in semi 1, and there’s 10 qualifying spots. Of course, I like some even more than others, but there are some nice underdog entries which I’d really like to see in the finals, and knowing that probably several songs I don’t care about at all will make it from the second semi makes me make a petition for a late trade-off. 🙂 (I’m joking, I know it would never happen.)
The announcement of the qualifiers from the 1st semi will be a tough one to watch. My priorities are Finland, Latvia, Portugal and Serbia, but there are also Czech Republic, Moldova, Norway and Sweden, who deserve and will most probably qualify. Then things get fuzzy. Israel’s entry isn’t my kind of music, but I imagine it will be very entertaining on the stage. The Dutch song is good, but we’ll have to see how much chemistry the duo has. Second semi for me is basically: Austria and Estonia just have to make it. I’d like to see Slovenia, Romania, Australia, Lithuania, and Cyprus qualifying too. Last three spots could go to literally anyone and it wouldn’t make a difference for me. Hopefully, at least one among Armenia and Georgia give us something exciting (or minimally, something excitingly bad in a memorable way, because the amount of times I can say ”whatever” has reached its limit. 🙂 )

Loreen’s stage production is winning material, but the song is seriously overhyped. It just sounds like they put Euphoria and ABBA’s ‘The Winner Takes It All’ and put it through an AI filter. Not saying it’s a bad song, but my god, the overhyped is nauseating.
So this is actually quite similar to a lot of the sort of type of music that I listen to regularly outside of Eurovision. Needless to say, I find this quite pleasant.
However, I know this is not the type of music to make a splash or leave much of an impression in ESC, especially since this isn’t the easiest type of music to stage with.
I’ll be a bit disappointed when it (most likely) does not qualify out of its tougher semifinal, but i’ll expect it.

A nice, smooth and feel good song. Kind of reminds me of something Georgia would attempt. It’s nice they are going this way, avoiding the Swedish composers and rejected songs. “Tell Me More” feels like something I’d listen in the morning while driving by during spring/summer. Georgia qualified in 2016 because of the Juries, not the televote. That could be a problem this year.

A nice tune – very unlike anything Azerbaijan had sent in recent years. Listenable and good. But it could struggle – calm could translate into forgetable without a memorable staging. But at the same time it could be a breath of fresh air after some extravagant entries.
I know it’s not a masterpiece, but I like it.
I actually think this is rather lovely. A Very Beatles-esque song for Liverpool. A good performance and I think this could do very well. The songs of Slovenia, Azerbaijan and Netherlands sound more British than the UK entry.
But the UK entry does sound British, I dont really get this statement. The songs you mentioned sound British but theyre going for different sounds and in Azerbaijan’s case, a different era.

35 down, two to go. We’ll have a break tomorrow, but Armenia and Georgia will drop their songs on the 15th and 16th, and that’s it for Eurovision 2023. Now we have to wait two months for the contest to happen. I can’t believe the national final season has ended. It went by so fast.

Good they try to be a bit original, but this is just not enjoyable at all. One listen was enough and I looked when the song is over, before it had even been playing for two minutes. NQ is more than certain.

Even though this is not my cup of tea I’m quite sure it will qualify because it stands out and have some hints of the Beatles in it. When (not if 😉 ) it goes to the final I think the juries will like it alot since it seems quite authentic.
