Italy appeared in semi-final 2 of Eurovision 2024 on Thursday night, with Angelina Mango showcasing her entry “La noia.” During the recap of qualifiers at the end of the evening, broadcaster Rai aired a banner at the bottom of the screen with percentages next to each of the night’s competing countries, which many have taken to be the televote results of the Italian public.

Although Italy is part of the Big Five that gain an automatic spot in the grand final, the nation is permitted to vote in the same semi-final in which the country’s entry is presented.

The reveal of these possible televote results would be a breach of contest rules by Rai. Broadcasters are not permitted to share any results from the semi-finals until after Saturday’s grand final.

Update: 14:25 BST

Rai has issued the following statement in regards to the publication of televote results:

“Regarding the publication of the results of the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, in the closing credits of this semi-final, Rai specifies that it was a technical problem following which some data – completely partial – were mistakenly highlighted in the graphics of the Italian national vote. These results, pursuant to the Regulations of the 68th Eurovision Song Contest, can only be made public after the final evening. Rai promptly apologized to the EBU leaders and believes that this inconvenience does not affect the regularity of the final result. The published votes are in fact incomplete. In any case, Rai has already spoken to the EBU, confirming its commitment to full compliance with all the rules for the rest of the event.”

Italy Eurovision 2024 semi-final 2 possible televote results

  1. Israel: 39.31%
  2. Netherlands: 7.32%
  3. Albania: 6.68%
  4. Georgia: 6.64%
  5. Switzerland: 6.03%
  6. Armenia: 5.83%
  7. Greece: 5.29%
  8. San Marino: 3.54%
  9. Denmark: 2.93%
  10. Latvia: 2.91%
  11. Austria: 2.84%
  12. Estonia: 2.80%
  13. Czechia: 2.48%
  14. Malta: 2.19%
  15. Belgium: 1.68%
  16. Norway: 1.55%

Israel topped the supposed results by a significant margin, earning almost 40% of all the votes cast.

Second place went to the Netherlands, who garnered 7%.

Some had questioned the validity of the voting percentages shown on screen. This is because the broadcasters themselves do not usually know the semi-final voting breakdown of their own country.

Portuguese journalist Bernardo Pereira noted that the votes cast by each nation supposedly go straight to voting company ONCE. The final results are then validated by accounting company Ernst & Young.

It is not known, though, whether Italy’s Rai has a different agreement that allows them access to such information.

The EBU has yet to make any comment on the situation.

Nevertheless, the information has helped Israel climb significantly in the odds to win Eurovision 2024. Eden Golan now sits as the bookies’ second favourite to take home the trophy.

Croatia’s Baby Lasagna remains the clear favourite, with odds as low as 6/5.

SVT has some raw videos from the audience during tonight’s rehearsal. Seems pretty good for Israel, very similar to how it was on Thursday live show. I’m starting to think they may actually take it home.

In order for Israel not to win, tactical votes may be required.
I don’t like tactical votes but now it may be the only way to stop Israel.
Maybe you should vote more times for countries that have a chance to win the competition and beat Israel

If Israel has the ability to forge International passports of other countries, it has the ability to manipulate voting lines.

Daniel
Daniel

Reply to  Cassette

Israel must have gained a lot of votes because of the protests.
In addition, viewers vote for their favorites and not for which songs they dislike.
For example, 10 percent liking a song and 90 percent disliking it is enough to get high ratings.
Different people may have voted for Israel and they would not have voted otherwise

Zipp

Yes. I am pretty sure Mosad found the way to hack the lines in the Icelandic selections because they wouldn’t be able to maintain their PR if Europe would massively vote for a Palestinian. That would be such a strong message! Maybe they even tested “their hacking” on Iceland.

Shame on Wiwibloggs for purposely fueling the fire and only posting articles about Israel that would escalate hateful and bigoted rhetoric. Literally not one article this season about a reaction, recap, review or anything that any other artist would receive. Yet any opportunity to invite bots and antisemitism with a baiting headline (going back to song selection, Icelands NF, comments by other delegations) has been put front and center. This season has been toxic. Unlike other content providers ignoring the Israeli entry, this site manages to be worse by both ignoring and encouraging negativity, toxicity and hate. Someone has put an interesting theory on Twitter about the Italian televote result: Estonia performed from 13th in the running order. They weren’t followed by song 14 Israel, but by automatic qualifier Italy, so some Italian viewers might have thought Italy was song 14 and they tried to vote for themselves. That’s possible this year as it’s the first time Italy performed in the semis – there might have been some confusion.

Samo

Doesn’t make any sense at all since you can only vote after all performances are finished and Italy wasn’t in the recap

it could be partial in the sense that votes via esc.vote don’t go through Rai at all and they wouldn’t know them
voting though app is more for hardcore fans as it’s not highlighted in the voting graphics, so if Israel supporters are casual viewers the missing esc.vote could be less biased for Israel

RAI statement can be interpreted to say these are partial results. Most likely showing just 1 of the voting methods. Because only %s are shown not raw numbers there is no way to tell which voting method this represented. My guess it would be the most tech advanced method as those numbers are likely more readily available.

People, reminder: odds are odds. If some expert says an apple is going to fly away from a tree, there will be people who will bet to that. Israeli rising odds are an obvious consequence, not a premonition. About the voti-leak, I insist: -all the ranking is weird according to italian traditional votes and taste -There’s not a single song in the history of ESC that could win with 40% of votes. That % is ridiculous even coming from Moldova to Romania. -I’m not european, I see things from a different perspective. If Europe supports Israel more than Ukraine in… Read more »

Does anyone knows if Netherlands are disqualified for not showing in rehearahals ? Or worst case scenario they will show recording from semi?

Do we know why Netherlands didn’t rehearse this afternoon ? Like, there’re just hours left before the Jury show, that’s worrying

Latest we know here in the Netherlands is that the EBU has started a investigation because of a incident that was reported to them about Joost.

I’m just upset the contest went from a really open field with lots of winners to everyone obsessing over whether or not israel is going to win because of politics. Regardless of who wins the enjoyment of the final is effectively spoiled for a lot of people and held hostage by this nonsense.

Not everyone… Just the usual bunch. There’s a tight group of contenders with different genre performaces… Odds are indicative but who knows. There’s a lot of long-term winners coming out of this year’s completion… It’s not always (even rarely) the trophy winner that we remember or see again.

Enjoy the final, and follow your favourites as they produce more music 🙂

Yeah… it’s kinda dampened my experience and enjoyment a little, but I still do believe anyone can win. My little metal-loving heart still believes Norway can win 😛

I want to see how the EBU manages the ultimate downfall of Eurovision if Israel wins, I wonder if they would apologize for not taking action sooner. It would be super interesting to witness.

On the other hand, I love this contest too much to see it collapse. As much as I dislike the Croatian entry, it seems like the only act that stands a chance of winning against Israel.

Oh like the downfall they had the last time Israel won 5 years ago? Take your pills, the fact that you dislike a country doesn’t mean that some catastrophe will happen if this country wins or does well in the contest. Israel has been doing pretty well in this contest for decades.

5 years ago there was no conflict?

I believe that after all this years we’re all “faking dementia” and admitting Eleni Foureira as the real winner. Opinion, since Eleni appears sometimes (like this year) and Netta seems kinda forgotten.

Nobody thought the contest would have a downfall when Netta won. The conflict wasn’t half as bad in 2019 as it is now.

The world has become much more educated on the ongoing genoc*de Israel is committing in comparison to 2019. If Israel wins whilst actively committing w*r crimes – the Eurovision we know and love will never be the same.
