If there was a common theme among the dresses at the Eurovision final in Malmö, it was certainly the colour. Almost every dress we saw was white! It would be a miracle if there were any white dresses left in Sweden by the end of May. Or the whole of Scandinavia thanks to a certain Krista Siegfrids. Malmö might have just recovered from the sudden white dress trend, but we’re wondering: who embraced the trend the best? Who wore the best white dress and who looked as bland as… well, a white sheet?

The white dress may have brought good luck to some, as the winner of the contest, Emmelie de Forest was one of the many who followed the trend. Emmelie’s flowing white dress was similar to the outfit she wore when she won the Danish National Eurovision selection, and it worked well with her messy hair and light make up. Hmm… Maybe there is a bit of luck in a plain white dress?

We may have been a bit distracted by that MASSIVE VIKING in the corner to notice Zlata’s outfit initially. But the plain white dress blended in quite nicely with the rather strange scenery during her performance. The butterfly ring was the most colourful accessory in her otherwise bland outfit, but that was probably intentional. She was probably planning on wearing a helmet with horns on too. But no one wants a fashion clash with a seven foot viking!

Norway’s Margaret Berger didn’t forget the shoulder pads and spikes to toughen up her long, white dress. Her hair was scraped back into a plait which complemented her floor sweeping number, and the gold spikes added that little bit of colour we all needed to see for her to complete her feisty look. We were a bit tired of the white dress by time Margaret performed 24th in the final, but we liked her tomboy take on the popular trend.

Aliona Moon embraced the white dress trend in true Eurovision style. She cheated slightly on the colour part as she had pictures of stars and flames projected onto the dress. But them she began to float. Float! The dress began to grow taller as she sang, leaving her stranded in mid air balancing on one of the biggest skirts we have ever seen by the end of the song. Just standard really. That’s what everyone wears in Moldova.

With Birgit being five months pregnant on the date of the final, we weren’t expecting her to wear the fanciest clobber in the closet when she performed. The white dress disguised her baby bump so well, it was difficult to tell she was even pregnant! Unfortunately for Birgit, the boring white dress didn’t manage to disguise the boringness of her song, and she ended up finishing in 20th place with 19 points. Oh well, at least you made it to the final.

It was a given that Finnish bridezilla Krista Siegfrids was going to wear a white dress for her performance in the final. But we were surprised as to how many wedding dresses Krista brought with her! She wasn’t seen in Sweden NOT wearing a wedding dress, and by the date of the final, her dress was looking slightly tatty. It looks like wedding dresses were merely casual wear to Krista by the end of Eurovision!

As a member of the 50% of the population with no interest in dresses I have nothing to add except that my mum and sister actually liked Raquel from ESDM’s yellow dress best.

Voted for Margaret also! That dress was really creative. I remember reading that it’s actually 4 dresses taken apart & put back together in a custom way. It was so well fitting on Margaret 😀 She looked stunning. I hope we were allowed to vote for more than one person.. haha Aliona cause that was a hell of a lot of fabric & the effects rocked. Zlata cause the mermaid design was really complimenting & made her look taller & Krista cause it was a really funky spin on the bride’s dress!

I voted for Margaret. Yes, everyone who knows me knows I love Margaret and being a fangirl contributed about 10% to my vote, but I really love its design. Simple but eye catching.
