It’s been three weeks since Wiwi launched his search for Eurovision’s Artist of the Millennium. After reviewing the 31 contestants (the first-, second-, and third-place finishers over the past ten years), he turned it over to you guys to vote.
As of Monday evening, 1,300 votes have been cast and it’s turning into a two-way contest between former Soviet republics. Azerbaijan’s fiery duo Arash & Aysel have jumped to the lead with 618 votes (47%) with their sizzling number Always. For now, their performance is holding off 2008 Eurovision winner Dima Bilan from Russia. Bilan claims 555 votes (42%) with his love ballad Believe. Turkey’s Sertab Erener, the 2003 Eurovision queen, is a distant third with 29 votes (2%).
On August 4 Wiwi is going to narrow the field from 31 contestants to the Top 15, and the bottom 16 contestants will be eliminated. Currently Eurovision stars like Greece’s Kalomira and Malta’s Chiara Siracusa have only two votes, so will face the chopping block if their fans don’t start voting soon.
