Which Icelander will follow in the footsteps of Hera Bjork in 2011?
After the sudden death of Icelandic Eurovision conestant Sigurjón Brink on January 17, the third semi-final of Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins looked like it could turn into a grim affair. Instead it became a solemn celebration of Brink’s life, and a reminder that plenty of things matter more than Eurovision glory. Brink’s family said he would have wanted his entry “Aftur Heim” to be performed, so his friends Gunnar Ólason, Vignir Snær Vigfússon, Pálmi Sigurhjartarson, Matthías Matthíasson, Hreimur Örn Heimisson and Benedikt Brynleifsson gave it a go in his absence. Given the extraordinary circumstances, producers gave the song an automatic bid to the final.
So now the lineup for the February 12 final is set, and it’s time for all y’all to cast your vote for your favorite contestant in Wiwi’s poll. If you can’t remember this year’s finalists, then scroll down to watch the qualifying performances from the semi-finals. The poll closes on February 11 at midnight. xoxo, Wiwi & Vebooboo
