If reports emerging out of London are true, then Jedward—Ireland’s hottest export since Colin Farrell—may be moving into the Big Brother house in August.
The Sun newspaper claims that John and Edward have already signed the deal and will each receive £500,000 for participating. The tabloid quotes an unnamed source as saying, “The lads can’t believe their luck – a cool half a million each.”
British broadcaster Channel 4 axed the series after 11 seasons last August. But Channel 5 has picked Big Brother up for its 12th season—and they clearly want to exploit Jedward’s growing popularity. Following their eighth-place finish at Eurovision 2011, their single “Lipstick” topped the charts across Europe, and Ireland even selected them to sing for President Obama during a recent state visit.
Reports also suggest that Channel 5 is targeting several other hot properties, including the eccentric owner of Harrods’ Mohamed al-Fayed and Shrek look-a-like Wayne Rooney. Other possible housemates are recovering crackhead Charlie Sheen and Ryan Giggs’ favorite mistress Imogen Thomas.
