Zeljko Joksimovic is no stranger to Eurovision fans. But the Serbian representative for Eurovision 2012 has told partners at ESC Serbia that his song will contain plenty of surprises, even for his most loyal followers.

“I want to meet the expectations of the public when it comes to the lyrics of the song as well,” Zeljko said. He’s previously stated that his song will send a message of hope and optimism to the public amidst the continent’s struggle over the economic crisis. (We totally understand his concern about the downturn. But we hope he doesn’t bypass expensive pyrotechnics and back-up dancers!)

Regardless, Zeljko’s stellar music career both on and off the Eurovision stage will likely see him through to the finals. In the last 10 years, his accomplishments have included:

– Representing Serbia and Montenegro at ESC 2004. He finished second behind Ukraine with his
song “Lane Moje,” which he composed himself
– Composing a number of songs between 2005 and 2007 for ESC contestants. In 2006, Bosnia and
Herzegovina placed third with his song “Lejla”
– Writing a film score for the movie “Ivkova Slava” (Ivko’s fame)
– Hosting the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade and composing Serbia’s entry “Oro,” which placed sixth that year

As well as being a serious musician, Zeljko knows how to mix business with pleasure. In between hosting and composing in 2008, the Serbian lothario managed to romance his co-host, television personality Jovana Jankov, whom he became engaged to earlier this year. Let’s hope his song—to be revealed next month—is as smooth as he is!
