Ireland’s Eurosong 2012 contest takes place on Friday, February 24. The latest odds from Dublin-based betting site Paddy Power suggests that it’s a two-horse race between former Eurovision contestants Jedward (2011) and Donna McCaul (2005). John and Edward are currently the front-runners, with the odds of them singing “Waterline” in Baku at 1/4. Donna McCaul—who is throwing down a hot dance number in “Mercy”—is second at 3/1. Andrew Mann is relatively close behind at 7/1. David Shannon & Una Gibey and Maria McCool are outside bets at 25/1. I’m going to put a fiver on Maria McCool because her Celtic sound really gets me going. I suspect the Irish jury shares my sentiment.

I am happy with either one. It’s hard to believe that it has to be between these two. Jedward had their shot last year, and it just seems lame to see the same artists again, especially the year right after.

But then again, Waterline COULD be the *biggggg* one…. and lead Ireland to a victory and save us all the troubles of figuring out accomodations and visas to a complicated country like Azerbaijian.
