Kurt Calleja, our favorite flash mob king, has ventured into charity work. He is one of the prominent faces fronting “L-Istrina”—a charity event that takes place every Boxing Day in Malta. This year’s charity single titled ‘Stay’ was the climax of the fundraiser, which included a 12-hour TV program. The single is currently the Maltese number 1.

This year composers Steve Compagno and Toby Farrugia teamed up to create a song that raises awareness of those in need. Current figures suggest that the 2012 event has surpassed all previous records, and raised over €3 million. Could it be as a result of this year’s line-up? The Wiwi Jury slated Kurt Calleja back in May for his dance track, ‘This Is The Night’. It didn’t gel too well at first with us. However, he won our hearts and plenty of fans in Baku during the live shows. We all got up and danced in unison. Secretly, we had been practicing the moves! The good news was that he advanced to the final, and gave Malta a reason to celebrate.

Like fine wine, Kurt Calleja keeps improving. His contribution to this track is worthy, and this is another single he can be proud of. Some familiar names were recruited to help record the song, including ESC national final runners up Richard Edwards and Raquela. Both names will be making another attempt for ESC this year in Malmo. Euroivision is huge in Malta, and it’s great to see some familiar faces put their name and talents to such a worthy cause.
