The third semi-final in Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix has come to an end, and we now know the final three artists competing in the final. They are Adelén with “Bombo”, Sirkus Eliassen with “I Love You Te Quiero”, and Gaute Ormåsen with “Awake”.
Adelén, a 16-year old and the youngest singer in this year’s contest, finished in first place with “Bombo”. She seriously lost it when the hosts announced her as the winner, which you can tell from the photo at the top of this post. Adorable. Her song is summery and Latin and fun, and we love the frothy lyrics: “Mi amour, in your eyes, I see love like a fire, the night is young, my heart is light, I know you wanna hold me, so boy don’t fight.” It was written and produced by a powerhouse team who have crafted songs for One Direction, Britney and the Saturdays. I smell a hit!
Sirkus Eliassen came second with “I Love You Te Quiero”. Do you see a Latin theme building? This song even mentions “salsa”. Clearly the Norwegians are looking forward to their summer holidays. In any case, this song is also upbeat and fun, and could do well in the clubs of Ibiza and beyond. We’re not really into the rap-spoken-word aspects of this so gives the edge to Adelén in a head-to-head. The singers in Sirkus Eliassen are brothers.
Gaute Ormasen finished third with “Awake”. It’s a sweet number that at times smacks of country, easy listening and even R&B. Dude has talent, but his number puts me to sleep. In his song he says “get off the stage tonight”. I hope he takes his own advice!
