Dan Manoliu, chief of the Romanian Eurovision committee, announced that 135 songs were sent to Romanian broadcaster TVR by February 3, the last day of submissions. This exceeds last year’s number by 37 songs.

There’s even more good news, as there is an “Anghel” among us. Manoliu revealed that Luminita Anghel, one of Romania’s best-ever acts at Eurovision (third place in 2005), is among the artists who submitted a song for preselection. Electric Fence, whose song “Sun-ta” was chosen by the jury to win last year but lost to Mandinga’s “Zaleilah” by popular vote, announced that they also submitted a song entitled “Emilia”. It’s already creating quite a buzz among Eurovision fans in Romania.

Other artists who announced their participation are Andrei Leonte and Tudor Turcu (Romanian X Factor winners of season 1 and 2, respectively), Elena Cârstea, Naomi, Liviu Guta, Lora, FreeStay, and Dean, who sent this little dance number:

All the songs will be performed live in front of the jury (behind closed doors) in major Romanian cities between 6 February and 14 February. On February 18, a list of up to 28 selected songs will be made public, ahead of the two semifinals on 23 and 24 February. The Selectia Nationala Final is scheduled for 9 March. The semifinals and the final (which, like previous years, will select the songs by a combination of televoting and jury votes) will be broadcast live on TVR and online.

I like Emilia, but I am sure all Romanian viewers will be VERY, and I mean VEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERY CAREFUL with the message. I like Electric Fence and I like their non-comercial way of singing and I would like to hear Elena singing in Romanian language this song. Why not?

there might be even more songs, because they accept all envelopes with mail date 03.02.2013 and arrive at TVR after the end date…so who knows. i feel we gonna have a great selection this year

As I left Romania many years ago, I don’t necessarily relate to all these acts…I am definitely happy that Electric Fence with ‘Sun-ta’ did not win last year as that song is not representative of majority of people there…I was not keen on Mandinga either, but somehow preferred it over Electric Fence. Luminita Anghel is a great singer and I was happy of her results in 2005, but actually I did not really like the song, plus her clothes and English were terrible…My favorite Romanian acts are: Holograf with ‘Dincolo de nori’ in 1994, Mihai Traistariu with ‘Tornero’ in 2006… Read more »
