So Wiwi has now watched the video of Adelén’s “Bombo” about 100 times. He’s still curious why young Adelén literally SHRIEKED at the 1:14 mark of her song during the third MGP semi-final.
Could it be that she knew she was going to lose our MGP poll to Margaret Berger? Or is that just the noise she uses to express joy and excitement? Either way, I really need producers to cut her microphone at 1:13 when she’s done with the previous verse! You can hear the shriek below at 1:14.
Update: Our clever readers have solved the mystery. The video above is actually a reprise of the song after Adelen was named the winner of the third MGP semi-final. She’s just super happy. The comments below explain it all. Thanks guys! I knew she wasn’t pretending to be a hyena!

She certainly seems like a sweet and charming girl. However, she is nowhere near good enough for Eurovision.
Oh I didn’t realise that was the reprise. In that case, I guess she’s happy, but also exhausted, stunned, and couldn’t quite contain herself.
Now it seems charming … which was Wiwi’s cunning plan all along 😉

She was obviously surprised to have reached the final and I guess it was her way of expressing her emotions because this video is after they announced that she was the last one to qualify to MGP’s Final. If you watched the 3rd MGP Delfinale like I did (after listened to Adelén’s Bombo, lol) she keeps screaming like that when the show ends, hahaha. Gotta love that girl! I hope she wins and goes to Malmö!!!
It’s a bit baffling alright.
It sounds to me like something you would do to overcome vocal constriction due to anxiety, except that she does it into the mic. So, perhaps it was meant to be a joyful shout, but her voice suddenly failed her. Either way, she does not look happy to me, despite continuing to give it her best to the end.
