Valentina Monetta is seriously hot—and not merely because she was the fastest-climbing contestant with the bookies last week. The 38-year-old singer filmed a rather attractive video for her song “Crisalide”. It opens with her oozing an “ooo–ooo-oooohhh-ooo” and clutching a lit orb. My first reaction was, “Don’t burn yourself!”

“Crisalide” refers to the hardened outer casing of a pupa, which a butterfly eventually sheds before taking flight. As Valentina made clear in an interview during San Marino’s song presentation, that’s meant to reflect her growth as a performer over the past year. Last year she dropped a doo-wap-beep-bop number about Facebook. This year’s she’s bringing a mature ballad about the evolution as an artist. I’ll take one Valentina with a side of ambition, please!

Anyway, the lit orb appears to resemble Ikea’s ubiquitous Fado lamp, which you can own for just $19.99. (Incidentally, fado is also the genre that Portuguese singer Filipa Sousa chose for Eurovision 2011).

Valentina gets rul rul cozy with her lamp in this video. In this shot it appears to warm her up as she remembers the chill of being eliminated during last year’s semi-final at Eurovision.

Here it provides an alternative to blush. Surely her cheeks turned super red as she warmed up to the bulb.

If Valentina incorporates the Fado into her stage performance in Malmö she won’t be the first. Who can forget the crazy shrieking lady who attached her Ikea lamp to a rope during Cyprus’ act in 2011? Wait for her moans at 1:29.

And some stills:

Anyway, all of this is just an excuse for me to say, once again, that I love Valentina Monetta’s entry. With the right staging it will be AMAZLES. I suspect she’s gonna use a lot of wind and will rip her clothes off when the tempo changes kick in at the 2:00 mark.

I agree, San Marino is quite good this year.

That last year’s song did not kill her career once and for all shows that she can overcome anything.
