Finns are known for their reserved nature. But Krista Siegfrids, lead singer of Team Ding Dong, is no normal Finn. At Eurovision in Concert in Amsterdam Krista and her back-up singers paraded around the Delamar theatre in Jedward-esque style singing their tune and commanding attention. Wearing her poofy bridal gown didn’t exactly help Krista blend in!

But the group didn’t stop there. During their Eurovision in Concert performance, Krista finished off her song by kissing one of her back-up dancers on the lips. “Marry Me is about love, and everyone should be able to sing the song for their lover regardless of their gender,” she told us in an interview ahead of her performance. And Krista isn’t just doing this as part of a gimmick: Team Ding Dong is part of Tahdon 2013, a citizen’s initiative to bring about full gay marriage in Finland.

Krista and her team have a busy schedule ahead. They will be performing in London this weekend, followed by a trip to Estonia. But a huge energy boost came from the chance to meet her idol Carola at Eurovision in Concert. When Carola came out on stage and started singing, Krista immediately started dancing and screaming. We screamed too, but it was from the graphically detailed view we got of Carola’s snatch as the wind machine made her loose dress mercilessly cling to her private parts.

MXP, you clearly spent a lot of time hating on our article. I hope you realise the extent to which Wiwi and I openly talk about our LGBT lives on this blog, and that this is by far the most openly LGBT blog within the Eurovision world. I also hope you realise that Wiwi and I regularly receive hate mail from people calling us fags, fucking queers, etc. If that isn’t putting ourselves out there and ‘helping our cause’, then I don’t know what is. You sitting on your ass at home hating on our article sure as hell ain’t… Read more »

i like when people holla at the gays. we never get any bloody recognition. i’m sure krista is just latching on to a current issue for media attention, but i don’t care. we need public figures at every level to embrace us so raise the roof and support krista and rally the gay vote!

@MPX…you are too sensitive and interviewing people like Krista is good for the gay cause. Take your drama to a counselor. I identify as a lesbian and am glad to get a shout out. Do you hate yourself?

Come on, you guys, it doesn’t hurt to pay a bit more attention to the terms you’re using: “What do you think of gay marriage?” followed by “Do you all have boyfriends”…hmm do YOU interviewer support it? 🙂 Then a message to the straight guys, lesbian women & gay guys voting on the website…gees, do you have to log on according to sexual orientation?…talk about enforcing labels on people…If you can’t do politics, just drop it because you’re surely not helping our cause:)
