@ Tika: In The Netherlands we have wun-der-ful artists that broadcaster AVROTROS can internally choose. Some examples WITH YouTube videos: –> Junkie XL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFAo-GFR6r0 Off course that’ll be a ‘Junkie XL featuring an unnamed artist’, because Dutch DJ and movie score composer Junkie XL mainly uses guest vocals. ‘Sythesized’ is a song that has ‘WINNER’ written all over it. –> Janne Schra: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3t4DP-RmNE Ex-frontlead singer of Dutch jazz combo Room Eleven. She recently brought out her own album. This song ‘Speak Up’ could appeal to a larger audience than ‘Birds’ from Anouk. Because in order to win, we NEED televotes.… Read more »

Denmarks winning song sounds very similar to K-Otic – I Surrender (2002)

During the last song I was busy making up a list of my fav songs to vote for. Maybe that’s why Ireland came last? But Ireland also can send a better singer instead of naked muscled gay men. Which I actually love to look at, but makes me forget the song too.

I voted like 7 times or so for Azerbaijan. Because it was my winner for the night. Congratulations Farid from the Netherlands. Great result for this whole final. Except for Greece imo. That was a circus act.

A quick look at the results show that there’s no need to suggest diaspora voting. Except for France giving 12 points Armenia. But hey, Spain gave just 1 point to Romania. 🙂

Just a thought: maybe next year we should participate as the Kingdom of The Netherlands (yes, Kingdom of The Netherlands actually excists and contains 4 countries: Netherlands, Aruba, Sint-Maarten, and Curaçao). and send a singer of band from the Caribian Islands? :-p

I’m getting ahead of things, but we have absolutly no idea what we should send next year that will do better than Anouk. :-p

For the first time in a very long time, I am very happy with the results. It was a lovely experience seeing Denmark winning. It was also a very nice refreshment seeing fewer countries voting for neighbours this year. Keep it up Eurovision!

Azerbaijan always comes close to winning or even wins with the most meaningless songs of all, even sung in the worst English.

If we could throw Azerbaijan out of the contest, it would be a nicer contest.

After the SF2 there were lots of fingers pointed at Armenia and Romania, blaming them for the NQ of San Marino and Israel. Well, these results show that nothing could have saved Israel. And most probably San Marino was the victim of that cheap lesbian kiss from Finland. Yes Krista, I blame you for the loss of San Marino!

I would assume that conventional wisdom has it that those who finish in the bottom-half of the top 10 in their bracket are likely to finish in the bottom-half of the final. Having said that, the biggest winners here: Hungary, with Alex going from 8th with 66 points in his bracket of 17, to 10th in the final with 84 points (hardly anyone thought he’d make it past 20th, but I saw it differently a week ago); and the Netherlands, with Anouk going from 6th in her bracket with 75 points to 9th in the final with 114. They bucked… Read more »

It would be interesting to ponder what could’ve been had Georgia and San Marino simply had their places switched in the running order. Eagerly awaiting the jury-televote split to see what happened. Ireland went after too many favorites, and the jury probably wasn’t feeling it as much. Moreover, it went after too many slow songs. People probably stopped paying attention after Norway, or after Georgia bored them to death. (Well, Georgia wasn’t that bad, but again, a lot of ballads in second half -> drowsiness.) Finland performed last in 2009 and also got last place. I’m surprised Croatia got any… Read more »

Also it’s not the same people voting in the semi as in the final. I couldn’t vote for the Netherlands in the semis, but in the final – so there’s the possibility of “switching allegiance”, if you like. You can think that of the candidates in semi 2, country X is the best, but in the grand final you like a song from semi 1 or one of the Big 5 better, so you vote for someone else. And I agree the last spot is not ideal. Has anyone ever won from that spot? I’m not saying it never happened,… Read more »
