During an impromptu concert in a restaurant in Amsterdam on Saturday, Anouk weighed in over who should represent the Netherlands next year, and she said that the perfect candidate would be Shirma Rouse, one of her back-up singers in Malmö.

Asked by famous Dutch producer John de Mol whether she was willing to have a go again in Denmark and repeat the success she had with the amazing “Birds”, Anouk positively declined, saying that her backing vocalist Shirma Rouse would be a great choice. She then wondered: “Who else could do it? Ilse [DeLange]? Pfft. Fuck that. That’s not gonna happen. She has no personality.” She has since retracted her “childish” statement, stating on Facebook that she regrets throwing shade at Ilse, adding: “As I’ve been saying for years, I should refrain from talking and just sing.”

As of now, it is unclear what TROS, the Dutch national broadcaster, will do in order to ensure that the Netherlands will be back in the Final next year. This year, no selection was organized since Anouk confirmed that she would represent the country in Malmö.

On the same night, Anouk sang a song in duet with Shirma, which you can watch below (jump to the 1:30 mark):

Whoa. Shirma has an amazing voice! And anyone who can perform on stage with Anouk like that would be a worthy candidate for Eurovision indeed.

What do you think about Shirma Rouse? And who do you wish to see following in the footsteps of Anouk, who managed to break the Dutch curse and bring the Netherlands to the Eurovision final after nine years?

little bit off-topic… but i just heard on the radio that Armin van Buuren maybe wants to represent us. How cool is that? But he said, that if he has a great single(with a singer of course) and gets (just like Anouk) all freedom to do anything, that he is going to consider. Wauw, that would be sooo amazing xD

Not to be the party pooper here, but did anyone notice a problem with her? She’s… black. We know what has been happening to non-white performers as of late, for some reason. I am still always confused about alleged racism in ESC with voting, but usually chose to ignore that as a dedicated fan, ha. But I do wonder if she could do well. No black singer has done well in a while… at least that I can remember? I guess Jade was the one big exception, but there was a lot of capitalisation on Andrew Lloyd Webber and his… Read more »

Blues would prolly be less successful than rock at ESC, but if they don’t care about that I’m all for it.
Perhaps something along the lines of “The Secret is Love” might work.

With the right song, she could do really well. Maybe Anouk could write her a song…

I’d prefer Ralf Mackenbach, Sharon den Adel, Tim Douwsma, Delain, Lisa Lois, or Epica. Ralf might get votes because of the hot young star factor (a la Saade), plus he’s a JESC winner which would be a media orgasm. Plus, I think that he’d submit a song to adult ESC- his career needs a boost. Sharon den Adel would be amazing, she’d get the jury and televote points, but she’d never do it. Which is sad because a rock ballad would be fantastic.
