When Sirusho worked the stage in Belgrade at Eurovision 2008, she “Qele-Qele”-ed into the annals of Eurovision history. Besides securing Armenia’s best-ever finish (fourth), she also delivered one of the hottest numbers Eurovision fans have seen this century. That number was sizzling!
Ever since then we have been praying that she’ll return to the contest. There was a glimmer of hope in 2011 when she failed to rule out competing again. “There are people who want to see me again on the Eurovision Song Contest stage and each year there are more and more people who want that,” she said in an interview. “It makes you think. Never say never.”
She turned the heat up again in December 2012 by releaseing a hot new single “Pre-Gomesh”, which was viewed on YouTube 125,000 times in one day. Armenia ultimately withdrew from the contest in Baku over security concerns. That made us sad.
Given the endless love Eurofans have for her, it’s not exactly surprising that there are already calls for her to compete in 2014. Over the past month, more than 1,300 people have liked the Facebook page “Sirusho — Eurovision Song Contest 2014”. (wiwibloggs is one of them).
The Dorians’ 18th-place finish was the second worst in Armenia’s history. And that came after an absence from Eurovision in 2012, and after its worst-ever finish in 2011 courtesy of Emmy. It’s time for Yerevan to claw back to the top—and how better to do that than by bringing back Sirusho?
“You wanna be with me, You think and dream of me, Come qele, move qele. Instead of watching me, You should be reaching me, Come qele, move qele.”
