One year ago, we were wondering what is keeping the Netherlands from qualifying to the Eurovision Grand Final, and we were suggesting names like Anouk, Armin van Buuren and Tiësto. Now, after Anouk managed to do just that, we’re beginning to think that the Dutchies may have read our article. Armin van Buuren is actually considering doing Eurovision next year!

In an interview on Dutch radio 3FM, Eurovision commentator Cornald Maas revealed yesterday that he asked the dance mogul and world-renowned DJ Armin van Buuren a few weeks ago whether he would be interested to represent the Netherlands in Denmark next year. “Why not?”, came the DJ’s answer.

Contacted on air by the 3F producers, Armin nuanced his answer:

“It depends a bit on whether I will be able to have a good singer on stage, because obviously I cannot sing. I can easily write songs but it would not be very pleasant for you to hear me sing. But if I have something, why not? It would be a dance record. If there is a good record and I get the green light, who knows.”

It would be absolutely amazing for the Netherlands to send Armin van Buuren to Denmark in 2014! With all due respect to wonderful Anouk, who did a gorgeous job not just by ending the Dutch curse but also performing flawlessly her beautiful song “Birds”, an Armin van Buuren dance song could go even further than 9th place. It’s Eurovision, after all. And Armin van Buuren is the number one ranked DJ, having won DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJs fan poll a record of 5 times, including winning 4 consecutive years between 2007–2010 and again in 2012! His 2008 studio album, “Imagine”, entered the Dutch album chart at No. 1, a first for a dance music artist in Dutch music history.

Here is “In and Out of Love” from that album, which garnered over 135 million hits on YouTube, featuring Dutch singer Sharon den Adel:

(And if he ain’t got a singer, may we suggest Shirma Rouse?)

Our DJ’s are one of the biggest export products, so sending one of them would be massive!

This would be amazing… If i was the boss of the Avro, i would call him immediately and say he can do everything he wants. I know Sharon Doorson is at the same label as him and she also confirmed to be interested. Well 1+1=2… Armin van Buuren & Sharon Doorson… if that isn’t a winning combination?

Well Armin can at least talk with Avicii, who made the Eurovision theme song together with the B’s from Abba =P

… for my taste, but Eurovision can inspire people to try new things.

But fine, “generic” was a bad word choice since every artist is different, and everything is new to someone.
Besides which, the important thing is that people like it, and I’m glad people are excited about the possibility.

Wow, if that will happen…
The man has a great personality, our King and Queen love him!
He makes great music and is even bigger than Anouk in our country, with a great singer besides him, he could do magic!!!
Zolan, this man is everything.. but not generic, he is reather unique.

Trance music producer Armin van Buuren expresses his interest in Eurovision, and someone right away just says “too generic”. Ain’t it amazing? How’s he “too generic”? That sounds a bit like reluctance to listen to/give a chance to other music genres. In my opinion, he would be “fresh air” for Eurovision, and his participation would make other top music producers and musicians turn their eyes upon Eurovision and see it as potential showcase for their music. I would encourage people who don’t know much about him to youtube his name and watch some of his music videos. He’s more than… Read more »

When I first read this news I almost cried. Armin would be great for the Netherlands! If only he could get Sharon den Adel to be his singer again.
