Yesterday the tiny nation of Luxembourg officially announced that it will not be competing at ESC ’14. Perhaps Valentina Monetta’s decision to compete for San Marino for a third time in a row scared them off?

We’ve detailed the difficulties of being a microstate at Eurovision previously. (Read James’s tips for the small guys here). Why spend the money and field a contestant when you know you’re likely to get screwed in the semis?

For now we’ll simply have to mourn the fact the Grand Duchy is staying away, and dream of the day they’ll return (with ridiculous outfits, as in the space suits Sophie & Magaly wore at top in 1980).

In honor of their rich Eurovision tradition—five wins people!—let’s listen to their last winner Corinne Hermès with “Si la vie est cadeau” (1983).

Which countries do YOU want to see return to ESC? Anyone you want to see debut? Are the rumours that Kazakhstan may join in’14 true? Let us know int he comments box below.

@Mike – It is nice to have some diversity in the contest, like the “ethnic” crap Turkey sent to Baku.

David, Turkey are returning.

The official Twitter for Turkey have put up a poll for Turkey’s 2014 Eurovision entry. 🙂

We need a confirmation, that’s all.

What a shame. I prefer to have Luxembourg and Monaco back than the Eastern Europe

I’d like to see Turkey return. They’ve got a vibrant & large set of musical talent. And they’re a large and important European country.
