Iceland’s Eythor Ingi delivered an emotional, heart-felt performance of “Ég á Líf” at Eurovision. As he told us in an interview ahead of his semi-final, the song is all about giving thanks for the beautiful things in our lives. We now have a strong suspicion that list includes cows.
That’s because Jordan, a wiwireader in Australia, has come across a song called “I am Cow” that sounds awfully similar to the Eurovision 2013 song from Iceland. “I Am Cow”, performed by the Arrogant Warms, was uploaded to YouTube way back in 2007.
You can listen to the two songs below and then make the comparison for yourself. We’re not accusing anyone of plagiarism. It’s very likely the songs were both influenced by pastoral sounds, which often sound the same. Or it could be that both songs sample the same track—a common practice that explains other songs that sound the same, like Cezar’s “It’s My Life” and Analog by Nature’s “C’Mon”.
Have a listen. Let us know what you think! We definitely prefer the lyrics in Eythor’s song…

@Alex
What wasn’t fair was Cascada being accused of plagiarism…
Something tells me that in typical eurovision fashion of loving the bad taste, a lot of fans would love to hear a song like “I Am A Cow” in Eurovision with real cows on stage regardless which country it represented. Again: celebrating the bad, booing the good … just for the fun of it.
[Me on “I Am Cow”]
Great!,im in that weird part of youtube again
[REACTION TIME!]
me on Eg a Lif: zZZZZzzzzZZZZZ (sorry iceland readers!!)
me on I Am Cow: LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
There are plenty of songs that sound like both Eg a Lif and I am Cow, though, so this isn’t quite fair. Church hymns, old traditional songs. I mean, that’s where the appeal of Eg a Lif and I am Cow both come from – they hearken to this kind of traditional melody, though one is for the purpose of conveying nostalgia, the other humor.
LOL. I never heard of I am cow until this post. They kinda do sound alike but I am cow is so hilarious. Thanks.
I also pointed it out in my review back in May… I can’t stand this song.
