PBS, the Maltese state broadcaster, has selected Gaia Cauchi for Junior Eurovision 2013—and boy can she sing. Gaia has a serious set of lungs on her and an impressive track record in international competition. She won her category at the San Remo Junior Music Festival in 2012. Bam!

Gaia’s first international gig came in 2011 when she appeared on the popular Italian TV show Ti Lascio Una Canzone. She took on Tina Turner’s “Proud Mary” and left the audience shouting bellissimo!

She won the prestigious San Remo contest a year later when she was just nine years old. She sang “One Night Only”, which Jennifer Hudson previously sang in the hit film Dream Girls.

Gaia’s selection suggests that PBS is in it to win it. What do you think of Gaia?

They were all just kids and all deserve encouragement and credit but Gaia was something totally special. She was absolutely amazing and professional for such a young age. Her family and all Maltese must be very proud tonight!

@maltese citizen
The reason PBS chose her internally is because we decided a bit late to return to the contest so there isn’t much time to call for songs for a national selection.

( Il- barranin mhux qed igergru u ha tgerger int. Gaia hija eccezjonali u ghanda vuci inkredibli. Dan huwa c- cans taghna biex fl- ahhar nirbhu xi haga, tkunx pessimista. )
