Valentina Monetta, the most talented singer ever to come out of San Marino, has released the video clip of her song “L’Amore Verra”.

This video is hot on at least two levels. First, art director Fabrizio Raggi, whom Valentina worked with in Malmö, has created a playful but mature aesthetic that captures the madness of love. Four men—two of the them shirtless—attempt to win over Valentina in a series of playful vingettes. They often bring baggage with them. As the song unfolds, Valentina croons about the journey all women endure as they sift through all the toads in search of their prince. As the “L’Amore Verra” lyrics say: “sweet baby girl, curious and playful and eager to know already what is love, the love that fills you up and then who knows where it is, if it’s love.”

Second, this video has us moist with excitement because it suggests that Valentina will deliver jazz at Eurovision. She will unveil her Eurovision song in January, and this video may be acting as a harbinger of things to come. As you’ll remember from Malmö, Valentina threw down some amazing jazz at her official Eurovision party (and we filmed the action here). Authenticity allows any artist to soar. Wait for Valentina to fly straight into the final in Copenhagen. Vola!

I’m very happy that Valentina’s going to represent San Marino again… but the thought of her singing a jazz tune scares me. She’s a good jazz singer, I give her that… but I don’t think that jazz is the right way to go if San Marino wants a place in the final.

Valentina should do jazz but jazz that is more interesting than this.

The song is kinda … zzzzzzzzzzz!!!

But at least its forgettable, which is a lot more than can be said for “The Social Network Song”.

I hope she isn’t referring to Vietnam using that-thing-that-looks-like-the-Vietnamese-flag at the back. By the way, all Vietnamese national flags are now obliged to be tied to the pole by a piece of black cloth as the nation is holding a State Funeral (if you’re interested, for Gen. Vo Nguyen Giap who ousted the French and the American from Vietnam a few decades ago) and I hope Valentina is tying it, too.

That song is so musically interesting! I’m not a big jazz listener, so to me the notes in the song were completely unpredictable. But it all sounded so right.

Valentina Monetta should definitely sing a jazz song for Eurovision!!!

I like the retro style video and of course I love the song. And I also like the fact that we can see Valentina’s mom in it 😉 😀

They should just give her a song like this instead of anything Ralph Seigel writes. She may qualify then
