If the producers of the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 go into meltdown in the coming months, a camera crew will be there to capture all the drama. That’s because DR, Denmark’s state broadcaster, has announced that a team has already started working on a documentary that will follow the people making DR’s biggest-ever TV production.

Lisbet Barett, one of three journalists in charge of the project, is keen to capture the good, the bad, and the ugly. “If this is going to be interesting, we have to be there,” she said on the DR web site. “Where it bubbles over with joy, but also where it gets really hard and uncomfortable.”

The documentary will be shown in the spring of 2014, at which point Danes will have already heard a lot about Eurovision. So the filmmakers will need to get extra close and capture some emotions and a few good cat fights. “The development of ideas behind the documentary is still in its initial stages,” Barett said. “But so far, we imagine, we will follow [executive producer] Pernille Gaardbo or [DR’s Head of Show] Jan Lundme, and possibly some fans.”

The Eurovision documentary will also cover the process of choosing a host city, which will likely include reactions from failed bidders Horsens and Herning. Perhaps they’ll even confirm our report that Herning would have been a disaster! We’re fairly certain Eurovision winner Emmelie de Forest will make at least one cameo appearance. Whether her older boyfriend will appear remains less certain.
