The Former Yugosloav Republic of Macedonia has got us thinking, y’all. We know the country has chosen Tijana Dapcevic for Eurovision 2014. She’s an ambitious and talented singer, and a great choice. But we still don’t know which genre suits her the best. She jumps from heart melting ballads to pop, rock, pop-rock and folk pop. It’s a good thing: it means she’s talented enough to work any number.

She’s prone to changing her image just as frequently. This July she gave an interview to novosti.rs and said she’s happy to say she finally looks like a woman. That’s weird!

Anyway, this Monday she released a brand new song entitled “Suze od pepela” (Tears of dust). The song speaks of a woman who doesn’t like her man anymore. She’s tired of all the failed attempts to save their relationship.

It tells us little about what she is going to sing in Copenhagen. Tijana has already revealed that her Eurovision song will be uptempo. Even so, “Suze od pepela” is a sure indicator that this woman will stick with a Taylor Swift type of song.

The composer of this song is actually a neurologist by training. It’s like he is a Macedonian Gianluca Bezzina, y’all!

Here’s the English-language translation of Tijana’s new hit:

Suze od pepela lyrics

Who knows why it is good
That in last minute
Your words are penance and salvation
Sworn to secrecy
I didn’t let
My intellect to bear down the heart

In the eyes without flame
Tears of ash
Let me talk to them
That I do not like you anymore
As I have loved you
It does not hurt anything as truth

Chorus:

These tears of ashes
On the soul goes out to you
From the eyes without flame
Other would not pour out

I’ve been forgiving you all
Your every lie
It took me a long time to let you know
Vain to ask now
What are you and I
As a sandpit in the land of time

In the eyes without flames
Tears of ash
Let me talk to them
That I do not like you anymore
As I have loved you
It does not hurt anything as truth

Chorus:

These tears of ashes
On the soul goes out to you
From the eyes without flame
Others would not pour out

Time passes
Consolation doesn’t come
Is it all in vain?
What are we now
If you can tell me
That this is not the end

Chorus 2X

These tears of ashes
On the soul goes out to you
From the eyes without flame
Others would not pour out

Nice relaxing song.. Also concur that it would not be suited to Eurovision. I like how the story is subtlety told in the video.

I also hope her Eurovision song won’t be like. But I don’t say it because this is not good song. I say it because this song will not stand out, as Julian says.
I wish her good luck, she is great singer and great person.
So sreka, Makedonija 🙂

when 20-30 singers perform you need something to jump out of the crowd… this is not that

Yeah….this is not too good. I hope her Eurovision song is nothing like this, I actually want to see Macedonia back in the final.

Well if her Eurovision song ends up being anything like this I think it would be a safe bet to assume that FYR Macedonia won’t be getting out of the semis.
