As the year draws to a close, Eldar Qasimov–one half of Azerbaijan’s singing duo Ell and Nikki–releases another single. His new release “In Your Head” is a remarkable departure in quality and sound. I am sad to report that Eldar has taken a dive with this one.

Unlike “Angels”, which had major dance stomping potential, this song is tinged with a dated Latin beat that was once synonymous with Enrique Iglesias’s mid-tempo rock ballads. It should come as no surprise that this was composed by Emin, who’s now trying his hand at songwriting. Although not a woefully bad song, it’s lyrically lightweight and padded with dull adlibs. The production lacks excitement, opposes current music trends and simply isn’t memorable. It’s poor for a demo, let alone a single release!

The good news is that Qasimov can turn it out. He’s got a powerful singing voice, which he has demonstrated in earlier projects such as I’m Free. That showed how fluid he is on the dance floor. One can’t help but think that the weaker links in this project are the team behind the production.

Even the video is lame! It was shot on Pirallahi Island in Azerbaijan over 12 hours. However, I must applaud Qasimov for his consistency on film. He’s one of the very few male pop stars that manages to remain disengaged in female company.

Rating: 1/5

“One half of the Worst eurovision winners in recent years and probably ever .. This guy is soulless, characterless and average on so many levels ..”

Eldar says a lack of talent does not matter as long as you put a lot of energy into it

@Charles, I got that, but when you said “He does try’, it just seemed like you meant that at least he is trying. Though now he’s not trying in the right way. 🙁 But yah, his attempts are really poor & he should just connect with his own style instead of trying to produce what he thinks a majority will like.

@Arianna: I actually said the complete opposite. Everything about Eldar’s releases is pointless to me and show no decent outcome whatsoever. He may be doing what he likes but the overall quality of his releases is questionable and poorly produced. He is a far better artist than all his singles put together in a mash-up medley. And again, trying to be trendy does not give you credibility … he should make sure he has the right style and sound for who he is an artist instead of doing what is mainstream and commercial.

He needs to channel whatever he was channeling when he did “I’m Free”. That is the only song besides “Running Scared” that I like from him. 🙁 But like Charles said, at least he keeps giving it a go & doing what he likes. Hopefully he sees more success!!

Despite liking this kid, I still find it reckless his attempts to release singles one after another with no success. He does try but it looks pointless. This one does come off as badly made demo with soulless lyrics and melody. I don’t really see the “Enrique Iglesias-latin-esque” vibe here but if it had such, it would not make the song any good. Being trendy or upbeat is not synonym of being good and his previous attempts have proven that. If he want to showcase good music, he has only one way to do it: have a song that MEANS… Read more »
