Slovenia’s state broadcaster RTVSLO has not yet confirmed its participation in Eurovision 2014. But that didn’t stop the singer April–real name Spela Papez–from announcing yesterday on her Facebook page that she had been contacted by RTVSLO about the matter.

This information is absolutely unofficial. And April says herself that it might be a joke. We can only wait until January when Slovenia, and countries like Georgia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, finally reveal their hand. Here’s what April wrote:

Here is a bonus question and you (fans) try to guess if I’m joking or not – they asked me from RTV to sing for Slovenia next year. Myth or true? And if it turns out to be true – shall I go for it or not?

We will, of course, follow her on Facebook to see what else she spits out.

April is a popular pop artist often compared with Lady Gaga for her upbeat songs, appearance and unique fashion style. She tried to represent Slovenia in 2011 at EMA, but finished 2nd overall with her song Ladadidej. She was defeated by Maja Keuc, who somehow turned out to be good for Slovenia.

She’s been very active on Youtube this year, releasing songs one after another. One thing is for sure – if Slovenia chooses her, Euroclub nights will be as fiery as chili coated in chili sauce!

Should April represent Slovenia in Copenhagen? Should she change her name in May to fit into the Eurovision theme?

@Alex: You don’t have to bother with my opinions but let get this straight … Eurovision may have been transformed into a gay platform over the years. But as a gay man myself I have been seeing that and a complete deterioration of the contest’s music quality: dance music has always been cheap and meaningless with one single purpose: make people dance and go wild for no reason. It’s like bubble-gum … it last for a while than you throw it away. If I wanted to dance and be wild I’d go the most suitable place: a club!!! A music… Read more »

Man, you’ll never lighten up on the dance entries, huh? Lady Gaga’s a great performer (just watch some of her acoustic improvisations if you deny this), and April does have some of Lady Gaga’s style, as well as good vocals, though nowhere near Gaga’s level. Some of us (well, a lot of us based on comments I’ve seen) enjoy listening to dance music and enjoy dancing as much as we can enjoy sitting down for a good ballad. I would be absolutely thrilled if April were to go as Slovenia’s representative in 2014, provided the song is good 🙂 Also,… Read more »

Gaga-esque? No thank you! Dance anthems? We have enough dance music to fill a club for more than 7 hours on a Saturday night. We need music we can listen to, not another excuse to have the Saturday night club brought to Copenhagen. And thank God Maja Keuc won against … this! A rare moment where quality wins over … joke! And I hope this all remains as a joke despite not being as funny as any joke should be. Conchita is enough already …

As it’s coming from my country, it’s a tad early to be mentioning this. Until RTVSLO makes their final confirmation next month, then April can then decide whether to accept the offer or not.
