Valentina Monetta never fails to surprise her fans. Whether it’s her evolving image, song choices, or appearances at Europe’s biggest song contest, she always keeps us guessing. Her London soundcheck in April was the talk of Malmö in May. On Christmas day she released a new video single with Joshua de Cadenéx, her vocal coach, mentor and now, singing partner.

For those not in the know, Valentina Monetta is San Marino’s biggest export. In May 2014, she will make her third straight apperance at the Eurovision Song Contest. She’s already showcased fan favourites The Social Network and Crisalide. And a few months ago, in conjunction with Sony Music, she released her debut album La Storia di Valentina Monetta.

Her current video single, “A Kiss”, also features the Corale di San Marino choir. It is a track taken from her forthcoming album to be released early in 2014. The as yet untitled new album will include self-written songs and compositions by ESC veteran Ralph Siegel. The video for “A Kiss” was shot during the recording session. The studio footage is presented in black and white, giving the song a vintage quality. The video footage is directed by Alessandro Capicchioni and Fabrizio Raggi with recordings and production taking place in San Marino,Rimini and London.

What’s most interesting about this new release is the high level collaboration involved. Joshua de Cadenex is a successful vocal coach who has worked with many established artists such as Westlife, Will Young, All Saints and Joss Stone. He has shaped many of the emerging talents on UK television shows including The Voice and Pop Idol. Also, he’s no stranger to Eurovision, as he was part of the team that accompanied Jessica Garlick to Talinn in 2002. His influence helped the starlet secure third place at the contest, the UK’s best position since 1998.

Valentina remains a fan favourite. She’s narrowly missed the finals on two occasions. However, that didn’t deter her commitment to music, nor stop her from branching out into new musical territory. This inspired our in-house panel to name our annual awards in honor of her. Her vocal contribution on this beautifully written composition raises her credibility, and showcases her versatility. A Kiss deserves a much wider release. Is anyone here thinking Blue Note Jazz Lounge? I am!!

Wasn’t that fun watching a 2hr Italian tombola with stenciled bingo balls just to hear a song that won’t be her Eurovision song :P.. oh and a family winning 10.000 euro. Actually, it was fun and the song is pretty sweet 🙂 Don’t absolutely love it, but don’t dislike it either.
