As the weeks pass, more and more details emerge about the Greek national final. “Eurosong 2014 – a MAD show”, as it will be called, will be a collaboration betweeen private music channel MAD and public broadcaster DT. It is believed that it will take place at the end of February, although the exact dates and venue have not yet been announced.

According to Espresso,  Despina Vandi, who is currently one of the four coaches on The Voice of Greece, will host the show, alone this year. Last year’s co-host (and Despina’s close friend, Giorgos Kapoutzides) has stated that he is busy working on a new series, and therfore he will not be able to dabble with Eurovision again this year. Last year, Despina attracted a lot of attention as a host, so we imagine she’ll be able to carry the weight of the show all on her own.

In addition, Freaky Fortune and Josephine are said to be participating. They’ll likely compete against Kostas Martakis and Kristallia. Let’s get to know the two new contestants.

FREAKY FORTUNE

They are a promising dance group that consists of Nikolas Raptakis and Theofilos Pousmpouris. Created in 2011, these talented musicians were born in 1990-91 and have occupied themselves with music from a very young age. They have always been writing dance and pop songs, and they have also remixed some popular pieces of music. Their first digital single under the name “Our Destiny” with their own music and lyrics is out by Universal Music. Their cover for Katy Perry’s “Part of Me” was awarded first prize in Perez Hilton’s music competition. When asked about their participation in the Greek national final, they stated:

We have not come across a proposal yet, but why not?! We hope that when we talk to you again, in a few weeks-time, we are sure that we will be there!

JOSEPHINE

She is a very young, fresh and talented singer, who grew up in a musicians’ house. Having released two video clips—”Piso An Gyriza To Xrono” and “Gia Mia Akoma Fora” with Panik Records—she likes excercising and is currently singing with Nikos Vertis. Another sexy lady in the show!

Apospasma.gr claims that guest star of the show will be the 2008 Greek representative, Kalomira. She’ll be part of a tribute to past contestants as this year marks Greek’s 40th in the contest.

Since I don’t have much interest in the songs which have been chosen so far for Eurovision, I’m quite willing to listen to anything that might possibly wind up in a national final, because finding new music is fun!
I don’t like Josephine and her rapper at all, but thanks for Freaky Fortune, I’d be happy with them.

If it can’t be Eleni, then I guess Josephine will do. I like that song even though the rapper has to go.

Oh lord .. again! It seems that every now and then we’ll be updating this bizarre list of suspected finalists for a show that isn’t even yet definitive … but considering the over-the-top love for Greece as that one country everybody loves and feels sorry for …I am not surprised. Anyway, I would not be so critical and share my personal thoughts on these Greek choices if I did not bother to listen … so having done that: a) Freaky Nature trying to be the Greek answer to Hurt … and I remember Greece doing this trick in the past… Read more »
