It’s a case of Suga-bye-bye as Heidi Range becomes the second member to suggest that the band has joined the Spice Girls and Girls Aloud in girlband heaven.
Back in August, the UK’s Eurovision 2009 darling, Jade Ewen claimed that Sugababes were “pretty much done”. At the time it was hard to credit that a group so famed for their off stage dramas would peter out in such an anti climactic fashion. However, in spite of Amelle Berrabah’s subsequent assertions that the group were planning on recording new music, it would seem that they are as good as finished. In a recent interview with Metro, Heidi has stated that Sugababes “don’t have any plans for anything in the near future.” As for the long term she was non committal : “Maybe one day we’ll fancy doing something. Maybe we won’t.” There may be no official statement but that sounds like a breakup to me.
Now I don’t know about you lot, but I’m devastated. Not really by the split (all good things must come to an end), rather by the fact that their last recording was the extremely underwhelming Freedom (see top) in 2011. Still they have a whopping back catalogue for us to celebrate (even if practically all of it is pre-Jade), and hopefully their demise will mean that we get to hear some decent solo material from the It’s My Time singer.
P.S for all you Eurovision trivia buffs, Jade isn’t Heidi’s only link to Eurovision. When she was only 14 she almost joined Scooch and she’s currently starring alongside Cheryl Baker of Bucks Fizz in a musical version of Happy Days.

@Charles: Your guess is as good as mine. This group has been dead ever since Keisha (the last original member) left or was sent packing.
@Charles Jade has been a member of Sugababes since 2009. All of her chart success has been as part of the band (her 2 solo efforts both flopped). The fact that the group is splitting will obviously impact on her career and what she does next. They are not separate topics.
@Duff: Like I said “despite all the links …” and by links I did refer to Jade …. what I can’t figure out what is the purpose to comment on the Sugababes split because the group as a whole never took part of the contest … So for me there is a huge difference between talking about Jade and talking about Sugababes. For me in the context of Eurovision both are two different topics and only the first makes sense. @Charles…Jade Ewen that’s why…it’s just like when there are reports on the financial woes of each Blue member, Nina Badri?’s stalker, or new music by (insert previous Eurovision contestant).
